• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Mel's Monster Garage Fresh Air Intake

more teeth may give better mpg but less teeth will give more bite on first gear.

True, and probably better 1/4 mile times. But we are already turning pretty good RPM at freeway speeds.

6th gear would be the ticket. Then I'd consider a smaller counter sprocket.

I've met Jimmy Mels --- while he's a really nice guy--- I agree about his products - in particular the hitch. Swingarm mounting is just BAD. The 'first and only' got old about a year ago.

I might have the first and only custom cold-air intake that works with the Race Airflow setup.... perhaps I should patent it and sell them on ebay! :roflblack:

i wanna do something like this also but i want to feed the air directly to the barrels (with inline k&n) but i have no way to feed equal amount of air into each barrel. right size pipe with double t joint may work :dontknow:
ken insists that i am not going to gain much by doing cold air intake and there is enough cool air circulating inside the engine compartment to feed the engine once spyder gets rolling but i don't know...
i may just make a box with abs plastic and wrap it with heat shield of a sort

I used heat duct metal and wrapped it in DEI heat shield stuff- the really strong stuff.

My main reason wasn't really for the cold-air as much as it was to quiet things down! Those open throttle bodies let a lot of noise come out when they are wide open.

Ken's setup works well and provides a good seal around the manifold - which would be my main concern if you are making your own setup. His has an aluminum manifold that bolts onto the intake - and then the filter has a rubber base that goes onto the top of the manifold and holds on using a pool-type clamp (screw clamp).

I do feel I get more power when running the cold-air intakes than with just the open filter setup ----

I do have his system and when I dynamatted plastics it did cut the air intake noise a bit. I may build a box around his filter or cut filter out and just use base and inline k&n. I don't know ... Still playing with different ideas
