There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Hello to all,
As the title says the wife and I may be coming back to the Spyder family.
We have owned two Spyders in the past and really loved them but we usually
trade bikes every few years but I had a bad experiance with my 2010 RTS and
traded it after only having it for 4 months. So now we are going to be in the
market for a new bike in the not to distant future and we are thinking about
another RTS and would like to hear from anyone that has a 2013 RTS (good
or bad things) as we are looking at other bikes also. We curently have 2 Honda
VTX's, the wife's is a 1300R and I have an 1800N and we just want to know
before we chose another bike if their are any known problems or bugs in the
new RTS's as we do a lot of highway driving and cross country trips and log
about 15,000 miles a year or more on each our bikes and want a very reliable machine.
Also do you do your own maintanance or use a dealer?
Thanks in advance for your input,

Toby

You likely sold your old RT before BRP worked out all of the bugs. It was about mid last year when things settled down with the throttle body issues that plaged so many. An update to the shift points took care of some issues with the SEs as well, so things have been pretty steady since.

You'll still read about some issues now and again and like any problem, they get a lot of mileage, but overall things have been pretty mellow on this forum for some time. I can't really say there are any things of concern across any of the 2010 - 2013s at this point. I'm sure others will chime in as we'll. the one thing that hasn't changed is making absolutely sure you buy and deal with a reputable dealer. They are still the ones responsible for making or breaking the customer experience.

Hope to see you around as a Spyder owner again. :)

I bought my 2013 a couple of months age and after the front end problem was taken care of (ball joints) it has been great. I only have about 2300 miles on it so far due to some sickness and bad weather, but plan on a lot more. When I traded my 2010 I had almost 40,000 in a little over 2 years. My dealer, Central Fl. Sports, does my service. Hope to see you on the road sometime soon.

For sure..!!

many changes and improvements. Not an rt ryder but many in our groups are. Be good to have you back..!!

I had a 2010 RT Premier Edition with a little over 24,000 miles. I put on a corbin seat and elka shocks. I now have a 2013 RT-S with 6,000 miles. I'm presently headed to Spyderfest. But for the balljoint issue initially, my new spyder is absolutely fantastic. My wife, Cindy, has even commented on how good this 2013 rides. I do not do my own mechanic work. I have an excellent dealer in Seminole Power Sports, Sanford, Flarda. If there was any fault, and I can't really call it a fault, it would be that my 2013 does "SEEM" (emphasis added) to be a bit more sensitive to wind gusts, albeit semis or just sporadic winds.) It certainly isn't a game changer though. The ride is so much smother than either my 2010 or the 11's and 12's that I have ridden the past year.

Hope this helps.

Chris

I do my own oil changes on my RS as well as minor maintenance and upgrades. Anything major I take to the sshop.

There does seem to be fewer complaints as we progress. It does appear that the DPS and throttle body issues have been worked out of the RT's. They are working on the 2013's and the ball joint fix seems to be working also.

I still have my 2010 RT and it is now approaching 30,000 miles. Bought a brand new 2011 RT and with 5200 miles, we have not had any problems with that either.

I've had my 2013 RT-S for two weeks and 2800 miles.....no problems as of this date..I rode it from the store in Portland, Or, to Great Falls, Mt..and a week later to Salt Lake, Ut and back
i really impressed . I got the comfort seat...and it's ok....no matter what you ride .....your butt is going to get flat..sooner or later. I did Salt Lake to Great Falls, in 10 hrs....and I was ready to get off upon arrival!!!!!

Just my thoughts....

The 2013 RT underwent several major design improvements including new frame, suspension, Brembo brakes, floorboards, and others. One recall due to a bad batch of ball joints, which is nearly over with. See the can am web site for videos giving a full explanation. They may also be on SL under media.

DIY versus DEALER

I hate to admit it but my DIY days are more infrequent then I would like them to be. In fact I am contemplating selling off my big double chest tool box set.
