Man Down! But Still Riding!

My friend was in an accident this past weekend on his HD. He was headed to work around 6:20am and a white car pulled out in front of him.
He had time to slam on the brakes...I assume front and rear, but he lost controlled and laid it down on the left hand side. He ended up with
road rash knees, black eye and a cut above his left eye that required 15 stitches. The cut came from his helmet! So thank goodness he was
wearing one....or things could have been a lot worse, probably saved his life! So when you guys talk about AGATT....there is a reason for it.
You just never know when one of those crazy drivers in a cage is going to pull out in front of you. BTW...the driver never stopped...kept on going!
So as a future new ryder, I have no doubt that I will be an AGATT Spyder ryder! So inquiring minds want to know....would things have been different
if he was on a Spyder. I'm thinking so! Three wheel anti-lock braking...plus you don't have to worry about laying it down. Can't help to wonder if
things would have turned out much better! Good thing is, that he is doing good and once he gets his bike fixed...he is planning on getting back up on
that horse! Kuto's to him. As a future new ryder, it does shake ones confidence in gettig out there on the road with all the crazy's...but I can't let that
stop me from feeling the wind in my face and the thrill of the Spyder cruising down the road!

As I've read in other post....keep your eyes focused and act like everyone on the road is out to get ya!

If it had been a Spyder...

It might not have happened in the first place... Being five feet wide; they create a presense on the highway that is almost comparable to an oncoming cage... The unusual lighting effects from them also tends to grab the attention of the other folks on the road.
You can stand on the brakes for all that you're worth! The don't lock up; they just haul you down from speed in a hurry! :thumbup:

hope you friend gets well soon. did his bike have ABS? i had a triumph rocket 111 with no abs and in a emergency stop the rear end came right around. lucky i got control and stayed up right

Glad to hear we have another convert for ATGATT. You really never know when you are going to get involved. Had someone pull out from a Stop sign at an on ramp when I was getting ready to cross the intersection. My ABS worked fine, thank you, and stopped me about 5 ft from T-bone time. This happened about 2 miles from home. Were I on a two wheeler, I would probably had to lay it down or go off skidding into the car. I do believe the :spyder2: helped me that go around.

I also had a Triumph Rocket III and the rear tire was always so easy to lock up, even when I went darkside. But I'm enjoying the :spyder2: these days.

Much easier to keep upright on a Spyder. Glad your friend is OK.

I hate to be picky, but want to clear up a point. No one 'lays a bike down.' They lock up the front wheel and crash. Don't ask me how I know this. nojoke

I think he may of faired better on a spyder, they stop just about on a dime, but can have the best brakes and if someone pulls out in front of you probably not gonna end well if there close enough.

This is 100% true With headlights, fog lights and fender lights, more of a chance of other drivers noticing you coming HOWEVER there is still those that pay more attention to the phone then driving.

LAPD motor school teaches you how to lay a bike down at speed and walk away. Don't try this on your own.

Well I for 1 had a mini-van make an illegal left turn on a divided freeway RIGHT in front of me early last month (meaning the min-van was coming head on at me in an opposing lane of traffic and suddenly without warning turned left across my lane immediately in front of me)... I stood on the brake and held on for all I was worth; these Spyder's really can stop on a dime if you can hang on to them! Felt like even my helmet was about to be pulled off (neck muscles hurt for the rest of my ride home and the rest of that afternoon); the G forces were most impressive. There was a very short screech of rubber for just a fraction of a second then the ABS kicked in and the machine just seemed to drop anchors into the pavement (no "buzzing" sound like automobile ABS systems either, I have no idea how the Spyder ABS works but you don't feel or hear it kick in). Scary situation that, if there had been a driver following me I would have been rear-ended or worse, I was very lucky nobody was behind me! It's not just what's in front of you that can hurt ya, even the Spyder operators guide makes note of the fact that the rider should be aware of vehicles behind that cannot match the Spyder's stopping ability!

And before ya'll all go to ragging on "cagers", go on to YouTube and watch the videos of that NYC biker gang that has been in the news this week... there are videos of what they were doing that day BEFORE the black SUV encounter, and it's pretty damning stuff: Blowing thru red lights, stop signs, school zones, riding 3 and 4 abreast in a single lane, riding thru traffic (between vehicles without a lane!), riding up on pedestrian sidewalks (literrally forcing people walking to jump out of their way!), riding in the opposing lanes of traffic forcing other drivers off the road, etc, etc, etc... it's little wonder so many people hate riders so much! And not a single NYC police officer to be seen in all the time that gang was running rampant across NYC public streets and highways... then the 1 rider "brake checks" that black SUV and all hell breaks loose! It was like "riding by mob rule" or something. I fully support what the SUV driver did, I would have done MUCH more damage to that gang than he did in full and legal self-defense once they started attacking the SUV... it would have been all out war if I'd been in his seat being attacked like that!

The gang rider's who have done interviews on major news networks like CNN are lying POS, they tell it like they were on a Sunday morning ride to church or something. BS! Just pull up their videos made by one of their own and it's obvious what was going on!
