Making a brake pedal extension today.

Gonna fab up an extension for the brake pedal out of 3/16" cold rolled. Wish I had some 4140 to build out of. I also wish I had one to copy instead of trying to re-invent the design. If I can get the pedal 3" further forward I think it will allow my broken and arthritic right leg to work the brake better. I would buy one if I could find a well designed one. If this does not work, then on to a hand brake design project. Suggestions?

Here's a comparison between the OEM piece, and the one sold by TricLEDs...

I'd love to have mine a bit forward and a bit lower so I don't have to pickup my entire foot to press the brake. I'd love a solution for this, but I haven't found it anywhere yet.

A bit lower?
Which bike do you have? It you've got BRP's floorboards; remember that you need the height in order to get your maximum braking power!

CUSTOM PEDAL

I just sent one to " beadaholic " to solve Her issue ( She has very tiny feet ). So I extended the pedal 3/4 inch back towards the footpeg and also made slightly wider which she can trim if she wants.............And NO I DON'T MAKE THESE FOR SALE .....it was a gift because it's just not available on the market..................Mike

As with " beadaholic's " a simple square or rectangle of 1/8 bar stock cut to size will work for you. Un-bolt the rubber PAD , place the metal on the Brake Arm , mark it from under-side for holes , drill it, put in round head bolts from the top with Nylocks underneath....This will lower the height about 3/16 ths.........I would add my cheese grater to it to make it non-slip...............Mike

Bob, it's a 15 RT Ltd, and I know what you mean about the floorboards. I suspect it can't be lowered much, but anything might help.

I'll checkout this option. The pad seemed removable, but I'd not looked closely enough to figure out how. Thank you.

CORRECTION !!!!!....My error " beadaholic " has regular pegs ..no floorboards......I would not ALTER the height of the brake pad if you have floorboards .....They need to be at the height they are to work properly.........sorry ....Mike ................also PM sent to make you read this

I just had a good look at the brake lever and the mount for the pad will have to come off to extend the lever. Bummer! I was hoping to keep the lever unmodified. I will cut the pad mount off and keep the piece so that I can weld it back on if I need to. I will bolt the extension on. I'm a little surprised that Can Am did not make this an option. I have seen several remarks about poor placement of the brake. I may also add a pad to the seat to raise me up a couple inches. Making this old body fit a bike is a real task.

I too experienced pain when applying the brake (back problems) on my RTS. Here's what works for me: I glued a hockey puck on the floorboard to act as a swivel for my heel. This way the brake pedal's position doesn't change but my foot is a bit higher. And I can still stretch out a bit and lift my leg when necessary to apply the brakes. Of course this wouldn't place the pedal more forward.

Test drove the 2015 Limited and could not find a position for my foot to work the break. At 6'2" with the brake and floorboard I had to lift my foot up in the air to use the brake plus I cramped up in a very short time. I would say it would not work for me at all with out a hand brake. Any other suggestions or will it have to be an F3?

After having a real close look at the available space I believe I can move the pad forward nearly 3" and that will be enough for me. But I do have to cut the existing pad mount off.
