MAC question regarding NOTES and iCloud

How can I save my MAC NOTES to an external hard drive without doing any copying and pasting? In other words, when I update a NOTE on my MAC, I want the update to automatically update the NOTE file on my external hard drive.

My gf yesterday assured me that when she was deleting my NOTES on her iPhone that they would remain on my iPad and iMac, and also in our iCloud that we share. Our 2 iPads, 1 iPhone, and 1 MAC are all interconnected thru WiFi. My notes ended up going to never never land. I went to the Apple Store and they verified they were gone for good.

The only saving grace was that a month before I had copied my notes, at the time, to my external hard drive. But, I'm still missing the notes that I had added since the.

Are you talking about a plugged in external harddrive? if so you should be able to do a save as and point to it just as you chose any directory on your computer.

The easiest way is going to use time machine and set it for the frequency that you want it to backup to the external hard drive. After doing some reading that is actually probably the best way. Time machine is a timed backup so you can actually go to it and say i need the backup from this point and restore it.

I do have Time Machine on my external hard drive. I believe yesterday I found a backup from the day before (in Time Machine backup) and tried to restore my system that way. I don't remember now why it wouldn't work. I'm sort of slow on some of this stuff. Can you walk me thru the steps in getting the back up from the day before yesterday. Also, what exactly is in the backup files. I'm thinking it's for documents, downloads, and photos, and not any applications that are resident to the computer.

Addendum:

I just went to the Time Machine on my external hard drive and found a backup previous to deleting the Notes. I highlighted it; but, I don't see a restore button or anything that will allow me to take my MAC to that point in time and reload all those backup files.

There is no Save As when on Notes.

Easy fix. Get EverNote and access it from any device. It is free and if you want all the advanced features then pay $45 a year for premium. I have been using it for several years and just started teaching other home users and business owners how to use it.
