Lowering the Spyder

O.K.
I'm probably going to get bashed, but got to ask the question.
I lowered the M109R 2" in the back and it was the best mod that I did to it. I don't like the gap between the fender and the bottom of the seat on the Spyder. I know that it will change. the steering geomitry(?) on the front, but, would like some input. Looks like an easy change, looking at the rear shock lower mount.

Air shock like Lamonster did. Then it isn't permanent and it's readily/rapidly adjustable.

Kinda thinking a permanent mod isn't gonna be a good thing.

Won't really change the steering geometry, as there's no rake and trail to be concerned with, but it would redistribute weight, which would probably impact handling. You'd also lose some suspension travel for 2-up riding

It will change the geometry, though. No rake and trail, but caster and camber. Doubt that minor changes would do much, but major ones could.

Not sure about the :spyder:but when I lowered my Harley it rode like a rock until I put progressive shocks on. I originally had some lowering kit on it and it was a terrible ride. Took that off, put the shocks on to lower it and it rode fine. I think the :spyder: would look cool lowered but not sure how the ride would be.

You should check with Mad Matt @ Kewl Metal on his air ride system. I think Lamonster has it.

Technically, I'll agree that it would slightly alter caster(in a positive direction for straight line steering). My point was that any changes would be minimal at most, unlike a 2 wheeler where even minor geometric changes can have a profound effect on handling. I'd be more concerned with limiting my suspension travel and maintaining ride quality....

2-up riding is pretty much zero (passenger seat is covered with cowl). I know there is an air ride system, but, kind of expensive. I was looking for something along the lines of what is offered for the M109. A static drop of say 2". And not costing an arm and a leg!
