• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Low moan has turned into a banshee's wail

Got Spyder back from service yesterday. Most everything was handled well . Oil change and minor check list. Low moan on list. Tech was just working on low moan Sat when I got there to pick roadster up. Had Spyder on jack rotating rear wheel. Low moan there so I told him I would be back. Wife and I had a late breakfast and came back. Went in and got all squared up left - made it less than 1/4 mile and slowed for light and this WAIL comes from rear of byke. Went back and Tech put some more break cleaner on pad. Was ok for about 50ft more than 1st time. Had things to do so I didn't go back. Am going to call Tuesday but want to ride tomorrow and the sound is just embarrassing as my wife says and she is correct. The break cleaner doesn't seem to be much help. Anyone have any ideas for a short or long term solutions. Would like to have some hint for service department on Tuesday. Thanks in advance for your usual sage advice.

This one sounds like it might be coming from the belt. If the moan continues when you apply the brake lightly, that will confirm it. There is a service bulletin on this. Your tech needs to look it up and grease the belt as it specifies. The fix is only temporary. Learn how to do it yourself.

By the time I hit reply on this post I had forgot one detail.... Did you say it only made the moan when you pressed the brake?

Your signature indicates you have a 2013 RT. If so you shouldn't be needing a brake cleaner sprayed to keep it from moaning. How many miles are on it?

And can you confirm that it is coming from the rear and not the center.

Also if it is only happening when you hit the brake and you can tell it is the rear then you may have crystalized your pads. Pads today are mainly sintered. They wont really crystalize. But they can get a bit bitey which makes the leading edge of the pad moan or squeal. I have actually filed the leading edged of new pads to keep this from happening on some bikes and cars.

...dragging pads maybe? :dontknow:
The tech may be spraying lots of cleaner around; did he get those pins that hold the pads cleaned up and slicked down too? :dontknow:
(Just a thought...)

Same Issue

I had the same thing happen on my 2013 RT. Turned out to be the BELT tension and misaligned rear wheel. Didn't take long to fix and no Issues in last 400 mi....

A big thanks to all. It happens at mostly at slow speeds with or without breaks being applied. I assumed it was coming from rear because with Tech had byke on jack and spun wheel there was a low moan emitted. I will definitely mention bulletin to service foreman/writer. The dealership is new to Spyders and in my opinion are trying to be consumer friendly so I want to give them the benefit of doubt. ;)
