• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Low Fuel Light

Stupid question of the day from a New Spyder Owner...

How long did it take to figure out the "fix" for the fuel gauge versus the fuel readout on the RT? I had no idea there was a readout on the display until a friend showed me his RT and the fix he had to do to get it on the display.. I go and my gauge shows almost empty and then when I fill up I put in only 3.3 gallons. Does the readout on the display work any better than the actual fuel gauge?

If you live in hill country, relying on the fuel light instead of a mileage rule can bite you.. my low fuel light goes off and on as I ride the hilly area around my house. sometimes I am low on gas sometimes not...

I have switched to the digital fuel gauge. I always reset the trip meters to zero when I fill up. My fuel light came on today at 169 miles. I have two miles to the gas station so if I make it 171 miles. With the other gauge I always filled up at 130 miles.

Fuel Light

With only about 4 fillups so far I have averaged 4.8 gal with the light just coming on. I fill up to where I see fuel just below the filler hole, just so it doesen't slop out the vents.Just like my other bikes. The slant makes it different, but then so is everything else about our roadsters.600 mile service (well at 855) is just around the corner, so some more spirited riding is to come. Will see then about range.

The other the day my light came on and I was able to pull right in to a gas station and I put in 5.1 gal on a 6.6 tank.

Same exact thing with me late yesterday. Light came on, I drove home (1/2 mile), went and got gas this morning (1/2 mile), filled tank and it was 5.1 gallons. I had 150 miles registered.

That's why I said "interesting" in Fred Rau's thread when he talked about his gas mileage recently.

My experience: When fuel light comes on the :spyder2: takes between 5 and 5.5 gallons. It is an uneasy feeling for me when the light is on and I am not near a gas station. I usually fill every 100-120 miles when on a road trip--just to be safe. Have went as much as 185--but felt I was really pushing the envelope. After the winter hibernation--I note the fuel gauge is bouncing again on my RTS. I am going to take it in during the next couple weeks to see if they need to replace it again.

I have waited two separate times for the bars to completely disappear and both times I can only get in 4.5 - 4.6 gallons. It is still slightly nerve wracking though because one time I was unexpectedly caught in stop and go traffic and was idling/riding for quite some time after the bars disappeared. :yikes:

That's weird. Unless I fill my tank way closer to the top than you do, there must be some significant variation in the accuracy of the digital gauges. I have never had the last bar disappear but I have put between 5.1 and 5.4 gallons in the tank on several occasions.
