• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Low coolant level

This weekend my bike (2014 RT) was running fine, but when I stopped at a traffic light the radiator fans came on and I watched in horror as the temperature gauge started rapidly climbing. :opps: When the light changed and I took off and the temperature came right back down. I went straight home, always keeping the bike moving, and the problem didn't show again until I stopped the bike in my driveway.

I checked and the coolant reservoir was almost empty. I added coolant and it runs fine without overheating. I don't find any leakage under the bike when it runs or sits still, and I find no evidence of leakage when I scan around the area with a flashlight.

Could this have been a very gradual leak, or do I likely have an issue that could strand me? The last time I checked the coolant was March and it was within range at the time.

If I take the bike to the dealer, I'm sure to do without it for a couple of weeks. (Incidentally, could Can-Am have made that reservoir any harder to get at?)
 
I would have to add a little coolant now and then but could not find the leak on my 2014 RTL
then one morning
I went out to take a ride and
I saw a couple of drops coolant under the :f_spider:
went for a ride but when
I got home no leak
I found it only leaked after it cooled down

I took the frunk off and
I found 2 hose clamps that were leaking
I cut off the hose clamps and replaced them with the screw type and no more leaks
that was 2 years ago

No Coolant in Reservoir

I also found my coolant container empty and over the past winter would have to add a little coolant, not much. Never observed any leakage on garage floor nor did I observed abnormal high temperature. However, after discovering my reservoir completely empty, I took the bike to my dealer, he replaced the coolant and I made an appointment for April 20th for further investigation of the problem. After 2 months and 2 days I got my bike back. Yes, it took my dealer 2 months and 2 days to diagnose and replace a bad head gasket!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

MISSING COOLANT

Is it possible the reservoir CAP wasn't completely tight ????............. But I think that would have caused over-heating due to it not being pressurized .....................Mike :thumbup:

I was trying to come up with a solution for adding and checking the coolant level. Like a cap extension with a dip stick. It is ridiculous that you have to remove that cover, and you can't really see the full level.. I hope someone provides a solution like this sometime soon.

I couldn't agree more, there's got to be a more visible place for that reservoir.

I always have some fuzzy pipe cleaners around for gun cleaning. I use that for a dipstick for this very thing. Bend it to whatever shape and length you need. For routine checks, a flashlight up against the bottom of the tank will show green with coolant in the tank.

The tank is pressurized. Careful fabricating a dipstick unless the setup will retain the pressurization properties- otherwise, she is sure to overheat.
Shine a flashlight from below in the right wheel well to see fluid level.
 
After having to add coolant a few times with no real apparent leakage, I finally found some coolant in the belly pan. I thought it was the hose clamps as that is where it was most prevalent, but it turned out to be a bad water pump.
 
I discovered a stained damp spot underneath my 14 RTL while stored in a enclosed trailer and could not locate any leaks. A friend told be it had to be a hose clamp, so I took it to a dealer to look at...…..well after telling dealer that I think it could be a hose clamp, mechanic couldn't find leak, took water pump off, nothing visible, put everything back together with new clamps, no longer have any leaks but the initial charge was 417.00, after a heated conversation, I ended up paying 212.00 for hose clamps. I strongly encourage to check clamps, replace them then if it still leaks then take it to a dealer. Expensive lesson.
