Louvered vent on whidshield?

After a 300 mile ride yesterday with the new BRP vented 25" windshield I can honest say their is a lot of airflow coming through.
I rode with the windshield fully up and I was feeling a rush of wind in my face.
The wind shield is narrower than the non vented stock version.
I'm pretty happy with this purchase.

Maybe that is what I'm doing wrong, I never ride with it fully up (except in the rain) but just high enough so I can see over it which for a height challenged (short) person is almost all the way down. I will try it all the way up next time out to see if I can detect any air flow actually making it past the dash.

Windshield

Hmmmm.... looks OK but I do like the looks of the BRP vented windshield.

Thanks for the info! I will consider this option for sure.

I got the BRP vented windshield It is much cooler and greatly reduces buffeting. 2013 RT limited

I had the middle bracket on my Windshield break for the 2nd time
Have had it replaced (Warranty claim in with BRP)
Since I had the dealer replace it, I have replaced the OEM Windshield which for a 2010 RT was bigger than the 2011-2012 one with the new 23" BRP Vented one and the new pins

Agree the Windshield is much more stable no rocking from side to side - Great for hot days with the ventilaton being selectable from fully open to full closed
I am sure my MPG has improved due to less drag from the smaller vented Windshield compaired with the OEM Larger Windshield

If you want to improve your mpg even more, and reduce buffeting and backdraaft, try the 2011 and newer lower deflectors. They really change things.

Are those the ones set at a different angle to the 2010 ones (more swept back) or the new adjustable ones with the 3 settings

Adding a louvered vent to the windshield?

After my ride with Steve, he had a vented front windshield and I have been thinking I would like to have one. He said it also helped with buffeting a little.

Has anyone added their own rather than buying a new windshield?
What is the windshield made from? Plexiglass or something else?

If I did just want to buy a new windshield, I have not seen any links to them and pricing? I did some searching too.

Bob
I too wanted a vented windshield as I had heard that it reduces the buffeting in a crosswind. So instead of the $359.00 BRP vented windshield I went to the local Honda dealer and bought the Goldwing vent for about $50.00. Dont buy the screws etc.they are a rip off. Go to the local hardw. for the screws and nuts (stainless). Very carefully laid out where to cut the hole and proceded with a sabre saw (fine blade) drill starting holes first and mask off a big portion of the windshield to avoid scratching. Work slowly to avoid a costly mistake. Vent works great. When I traded in my 2013 for the 2014 I swaped windshields to keep the vented one while the brand new one went on the old 2013. Pm me I can forward cell ph pics.

Bear in mind that its not just a vent...if you treat like a flap you can control the head buffeting......boundary layer control.

Rayelljay, you are right on the money! A vent is great for getting some airflow, but its larger role is to help mitigate buffeting. You may have to adjust the vent as you ride when you encounter varied conditions (tailwind, headwind, etc.). For those of you who don't want to attempt to install an adjustable vent in your shield, all of our models can be ordered with or without a vent. We use the OEM Honda 1800 vent which has proven to be best choice for performance and longevity. Our Stock Wide (25" tall & 5" wider than stock) with vent is a great choice if you like the stock height but want more protection for the upper body. The Plus 3 (3" taller & 5" wider than stock) is for those riding two up, no buffeting for the rider or passenger. Need more air? Our Sport (3" shorter) model can be ordered stock width or wide. All can be ordered clear or tinted. Give us a call, we can make your ride safer and more enjoyable!
