• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Loud clunk when shifting from into 1st or reverse.

Before the first oil change I had a slight clunk when shifting from neutral to 1st or reverse. I changed to a full Syn 5-40 and now the clunk is very loud. Sounds like it could brake something. Is this normal? Any suggestions.

That first shift of the day N - first or N - reverse usually results in a loud clunk. Should not be as noticeable after the :spyder2: is warmed up (usually 5 or so miles).

The fully synthetic oil might make the normal 'first gear selection clunk' sound a tad louder than it did before, but more often than not with this sort of thing, it's just because you've done something that you are now hyper aware so it just seems louder...

If I let it idle a minute or so the idle speed drops to 900 or 1000 and then it isn't as bad.

That's still what normally happens, so it really could just be that you 'think' it's louder initially just because you are now listening to it more critically cos you've done something.... It happens waaaay more than you might think!

I've noticed that when going from reverse to first. If I hold down the shifter and let it shift into neutral, then into first without lifting the paddle, there is very little clunk, versus going to neutral, lift the paddle and then into first.

Clunk when shifting

I hadn't really thought about the clunk on my 2010 RT when shifting. I am new to the Spyder after riding my VTX 1800s for several years. I did ask on the VTX forum about the clunk on those bikes when shifting - was told "It's normal." So, when I started riding the RT I didn't notice the clunk. Glad to know it's normal.

I posted that just for you Bob! Turns out that was Mike Campbell's wife shouting that out. Early in his career Campbell was trying to record and his wife had the washing machine going. Mike asked if there was something wrong because the machine was making an awful racket. She yelled Back and it hit the recorder "It's just the normal noises in here!" He shared it with the band. Then he's driving down the road and "Even the Losers" comes on and he hears his wife to start the song!:roflblack:

:D Fantastic...Thanks for the rest of the story!

This is the first time that I've posted a link for an entire album. :D

Clunk

Ever ride behind the Harley's? Our group has 5 CanAm's and the rest are Harley's mostly. But, when the Harley's shift, guess what, clunk! Don't worry about it. Just enjoy the ride.

Wow

Land that was really cool too. I loved the dropping of the needle on the vinyl! I must admit though, I don't miss turning the record over!:banghead:
