• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Lost seat strut clip

The seat gas strut clip fell into the black hole of no return. I found the replacement part on one of those web sites that has the parts diagrams. It was only $1.00. But they wanted $12.00 for shipping. OUCH! I went to lowes and bought two for 80 cents, plus sales tax. Total:$0.87

13.00 minus 0.87 = $12.13.

And I have an extra....

Some places just don't get it when it comes to shipping. I encountered one place that wanted $75 to ship me a $69 pair of Kevlar jeans. I weed out those suppliers very quickly. Just because I am in Alaska, does not mean I need everything shipped next day air.

My former dealer would charge me shipping for any parts they had to order.

My current dealer doesn't.

Shipping is a scam anyway. A lot of on line sites charge twice what the actual shipping is.

I don't mind paying for shipping....but come on! $12.00 for a $1.00 part that weighs less than a quarter ounce!
His cost is:
Cost of pulling part out of warehouse: $0.50
Cost of Envelope to mail: $0.10
Cost of Stamp $0.49
Cost of Spit to Lick the Envelope $0.01

Total: $1.10 MAX.
I might have been willing to pay $3.00 but not TWELVE!

Shipping

You want to try living on the other side of the world to you guys, 99% of anything I need for the spyder gets shipped in from the States, some times the shipping can cost me more than the part, then if I decide to bulk some items together to save on the shipping cost I get hammered on import duty, I just can't win.
There also can be a massive time delay, I've just ordered a custom decal from Wrapmyspyder/powersportswarps and that will take 2 weeks to get here.
My son was in the States for the past 10 days on business and was telling us about a lovely place he had found to work and live, I keep dropping the hint that maybe he should move there.

Sadly..!!

too many like to quote you a real good price only to kill the deal in shipping and handling. Having lived abroad we depended on traveling friends and relatives. Many cases friends of friends and shady distant relatives. Most of those parts are available in autoparts stores and home depot...glad you found some at a fair price...:2thumbs:

I have a good dealer who has not charged me for any shipping.....I just laughed when I read your post stating " My former dealer".....I wonder if he knows why you haven't returned? :roflblack:

That dealer may have had more than a shipping issue with you as well. Glad you have a better dealer now.

:agree: A buddy of mine years ago when Hot Wheels were in demand tried selling some on eBay for $2.50 plus the $1.25 it cost to mail them. When nobody bought them he re-listed them for $0.99 plus $4.50 shipping, and sold all five that he had. He paid $1.25 each. I believe that is how they all make their money on things.

I think you are being either very generous with your amount, or the place needs to be more productive. Where I work it costs 74 cents for each case moved in and out. This includes unloading, storing, pulling, and shipping. Of course most of these are moved by the case or pallet.

I ordered 2 "Rotax" decals on the BRP site. They were shipped from a local dealer 25 miles from me. I was charged $4.75 shipping for 2 featherweight items. Postage was way less than $1 on the envelope.

I was trying to over estimate their costs to support my overall rant.

And Dan! Don't forget the merchant made it easy for you to get the .50 cent part, by stocking it for you; paying payroll to the employee pulling the part; paying payroll taxes; paying business and workers comp insurance; paying for the building to warehouse the part; paying another employee to have it invoiced, packaged and shipped; paying processing fees for your credit card, then paying the USPS OR UPS a fixed fee for getting it to you, and on and on, so you could enjoy the .50 cent part you lost. Most mail order businesses cant afford to sell you a part like that, so support your local dealer to keep him in business, or you may find that someday you can't even get the part. Real businesses have huge built in overhead costs, that are always paid by the consumer eventually, or they go under. Average clerical and raw labor costs just to generate a business invoice is $10.
