• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

LOST PART bad first ride

Hey cuz, if the folks who were honking do have it. They may take it to a spyder dealer, in an attempt to get it bsck to you. Just a thought.

Or you can put up a sign in the area where it happened. If they pass by again they might see the sign, and call you.

This is what I did, just in case, using an old camera strap.

lost panel

When my friend lost a panel on his 2010 RT he looked at various options. The lanyard is a good idea and he tried that but found that when the panel would fly off it banged the bike and his leg badly. He then located the ideal spot to drill through the panel and into the support frame. He installed two nice looking large headed sheet metal screws. One on each side panel. Problem solved and it only takes an extra few seconds to remove the screw when checking oil level. When he brings it in for dealer service he removed the screws at the dealership. This way the tech cannot damage the panel while trying to remove it without thinking about the extra screw and mess things up.

Harvey put Velcro strips on my covers and while their sometimes slow coming off they ain't going no where

I am sorry to hear that you have lost the panel. However, I also have the Vertika vents on my RTS SE5, and I'm concerned about whether the vents might cause a panel to fly off. What happened to yours where the screws go through the panel? Did the panel just break loose leaving the screws in the Spyder, or were the screws pulled out as well? I do have the airbox and resonator removed on mine, so that all of the air flowing through the vents passes over the engine. If you still have the airbox and resonator, is it possible that the amount of air passing in is restricted, causing the vents to act as a "sail" creating lift and pulling the panel up?

John,
That Sux! :gaah:
We were hoping for a postivie report about how those panels helped with your heat issues too!
I have the same vents on my 13 RTS SE5 and they work great while moving. At highway speed (75) I generally show 3 bars of heat. When you stop, it does warm up, but hey, I have a remedy for that. Don't stop!

your right

i am not the luckiest person in the word Ann, but i just keep going on. like i tell people i am dead but just too stupid to lay down. i ordered the new parts last night and tomorrow i will call vertika trikes to get another vent and ask why the wind took the other one off and has anyone else had this problem b4. also i will ask if i missed something in installing them, the vent on the right side did not come off and i think it is because i had to cut the plastic under it to allow air flow to the engine compartment.

i have also decided to screw the panels to the bike with marine grade stainless steel self tapping screws and beveled washers, two on top and one on the bottom to make sure the panels never come off unless i want them off. slowly but surely the bike is getting to me. with all the work, money and time i put into it with the vents plus the heat issues i really need to get over this loss problem and start to enjoy the bike if i can. i will not ride the bike as it is right now because i hate the way it looks with the missing panel so today i will go and buy the screws and fasten the right side and when the new panel gets here next week i will put that one on w/o the vertika vent until i get the new vent and paint and install it.

This may be a dumb question, but how could that panel come off without losing the mirror too? How about a picture?

it is the bottom panel that you take off to check the oil, today i went out to get the screws i am going to use to fasten the panels to the bike and i think i saw the one that came off my bike. if what i saw is it, it's in many pieces but i couldn't stop because it is just off the left lane. tonight if i remember when traffic dies i will go pick it up.

I'm sorry. I misunderstood and thought it was the one to which the Vertika vent was attached.

yes

Don't leave us hanging ....did you find it??

i went out last night because i thought i saw a piece of it on the parkway, it was destroyed. i forgot my phone at home so no pictures and it was not worth picking up the pieces to take home. i called vertika today but no answer so i left my number and waiting for a call. so that's the story, when the new panel comes i will install it and ride the bike with only one vent on the right lower panel till i get the other one and have it painted and installed.
