• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Lost Key

Has anyone had a spare key made for the Spyder? Know what I should expect to pay? I've called my dealer and they are looking into it, they haven't had anyone else request a key for the Spyder yet. I still have one, so I can still ride, but I lost my second one.

The key has a chip in it , So the old key and the new key will needed to be coded to match your Spyder. Prices seem vary from one dealer to another. [50$ to 200$]:dontknow:

I had a spare key made.. before I did.. I called two Dealerships and they quoted me prices of $35-$45 .. I had read that some places were charging $120-200... this is BS... they are charging you for The Key/having it cut/ and an hour labor.. The price for the Key and having it cut should run about $35-$50.. but charging an hours labor to program the key is pure crap.. it only takes about/less than 2-3 mins.. they take a Master Key put it in your spyder.. then your original key then you new key and its done.. call around until you find an honest dealership that isnt out for blood..

BRP lists the key as P/N 710001211 at an MSRP of $34.99. The cover is listed as P/N 710001102 @ $11.99. Those prices do not include cutting it to match, or programming via BUDS. The may also need a Master Key, I don't remember. I know they do for a complete set.

I only got one key when I bought my RT as the 2nd owner.

There were 3 charges to get a 2nd key:
1. Can-Am dlr charged $40. for a blank key
2. Locksmith shop charged $5 to cut the key to match orig
3. Dlr wanted $35 to program the key, so I changed dealers and the new one did it for free!

I had problems getting the key cut, the routine places such as hardware stores usually cant do it.... a Locksmith shop can.

Lost a key here in Mexico. Called PitBull buggy at Cow Town. He gave me a great price and will make a new one while I'm at SpyderFest. About $30-$35 as I recall. Shop around!

BRP dealer has to lay out big bucks for the master key as well as BUDS .So I guess some dealers are trying to get there money back sooner then others .:dontknow:

Well, good news is I found my lost key under a pile of crap in my office! I guess after reading the cost and experiences here I'll be sure to keep a much closer watch on my Spyder keys.

Thanks all!

White Cycle & Marine/Chattanooga, Tn $37.00 each for two extra keys, free program of all four. locksmith cut plain key VL8 for $7.00.

I have the plain key stowed in easy reach, to gain access to the trunk; where a chipped key is. real simple solution to MAJOR vacation headache, if you come up missing a key.

Thanks for the good idea. I have spare key hidden on my Wing. They are not chipped, so your idea of a non chipped key hidden to open the trunk to get the chipped key is good. I will do that if I ever get my RT.

I'm starting to like that idea too! Secure an extra coded key in the storage somewhere and hide a dummy key in the tupperware... 2 keys cut and one coded... I'll ask ther dealer what the damages are for that tomorrow morning while the bike is getting its oil changed.

Just my thoughts; I think if you leave a chipped key on the Spyder then the non chipped key will be able to start it :dontknow:
