• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

loose mirror and soft rear suspention

Hey Guy's i have a loose left mirror on my 2010 rt. are they pop offs like large touring bikes and just need grommets replaced or do i have to disassemble half of the upper fairing to remove the mirror?

On another note i think the rear shock is just riding on the spring due to being able to get it to move easily down with just my thumb, doesn't seem like it is dampening at all. What is a good replacement shock(s) out there?

The mirror pops off, there are three clips that hold it on, if it feels loose one of the three clips may be loose, off, or broken.

i am looking for the thread that will tell you how to fix it. stand by

The mirrors are designed to break away if bumped. In most cases they do just that, but the BRP version uses a kehole clip on one corner that can break if hit from the wrong angle or muscled off during the removal process. Once you learn the technique of removing and replacing the mirrors, they work pretty well.

To remove...while supporting the outer edge of the mirror with one hand to resist your other hand, rap firmly (but not too hard) with at the outer edge toward the rear to pop the front spring clip loose. Now put the support hand at the top of the outer edge and rap firmly upward to pop loose the lower spring clip. Don't hit so hard that the mirror wants to bend up at a substantial angle...you will break the keyhole clip. With the spring clips loose, lift straight up on the mirror about 1/2" to disengage the keyhole clip, then pull the mirror outward when freed. Pull the wiring connector out of the body, and disconnect it. Reinstallation is the opposite of removal. Make sure the spring clips are straight and parellel. Some light lubrication on the outer cone of the spring clip posts is helpful. Remember that rapping firmly usually works better than pulling or tugging, either for removal or installation.

Check the air pressure in your rear air suspension, if you have a plain RT or RT-AC. Check to see that the electonic rear suyspension is working if you have an RTS or LTD. For all models make sure the suspension is not leaking down to zero overnight. The rear suspension needs both the shock/spring and the air bag to have adequate capacity on the Spyder. As far as damping goes, push down hard and watch the rebound when you let go. The spyder should not bounce repeatedly. If it bounces back up and immediately comes to rest the shocks are working as designed.

If your mirror clips are broken they are a pretty cheap part to replace. If your Spyder us under warranty you should have your dealer repair the mirror and check out the shock. I had a broken rear shock on my 2010 and it was replaced under warranty

:agree: With what Joe said...
A better shock for the rear? one word: ELKA! :2thumbs:

Do You Personally have a Elka on your rear wheel to make that Judgement ?:dontknow:

One person who had a rear Elka shock on the RT said it was terrible? nojoke

I don't know about the other poster, but I personally have the Elka rear shock as well as Elka fronts on a 2010 RTS-SE5. I had 2 OEM shocks replaced under warranty because of "topping out" failure. The Elka is firm but does a great job.
I would highly recommend the change out.
