Loose hand controls?

[FONT=&quot]2010 RT-S SE5 left side hand control is loose. The locating pin on the control has significant play in the mating hole on the handlebar. The entire control rotates CW about a quarter of an inch on upshifts, then rotates back CCW on downshifts. This is a safety hazard that BRP should have addressed in a TSB by now. The right hand control does the same, but not nearly as much. Any help appreciated. [/FONT]

are the mounting screws tight?

If they are: remove them, and add a wrap (or two) of electrical tape...
Then just replace them! :thumbup:

could be such a thing as the stub bar clamps have worked loose. no likely though, but worth checking. the stub bars have a dimple in them that a point on the clamp goes into that keep things in place. easy to check. remove the black plastic covers on the front of the handlebars and see if the 4 screws that hold the clamp are tight and if tight that the stub bar is not rotating. if they are rotating I would apply some good 2 part epoxy on the stub bar dimple put the clamp back on and go from there.

Same thing happened with my 2010 RTS. I just did the tightening thing and was good to go.

Try this

Loosen the pinch screws on the back of the comand, clean the contact area with some alcahol then re-tighten it all. Sometimes when not good and tight cleaning fluids that a silicone based or waxy get under there and it does not make good contact...:thumbup:

All good suggestions - thanks! Four hex head screws are tight. Bar is clean. It appears that the metal stud on the control has some play in it's contact with the hole in the handle bar. Epoxy would likely work, but I may never get the control off again. I wrapped some electrical tape around the bar to create additional friction and it seems to have helped for now.
