• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

... of a brake fluid leak in my 2014 STL. :gaah:It's on the right side (from the rider's POV.) I felt up the brake line as far as I could without feeling any wetness so it's pretty far up in the body but not near the reservoirs.

It's due for it's break-in service (over due actually) so I'll just add this to list. The dealer isn't that far so if I top off the fluid I'll make it to the dealer.

Bummer..!!

hope it is an easy repair and they can get to it while you wait...or at least befor the weekend..:gaah:

 Ouch!

Yes; please be careful on the ride to the shop.
Good Luck, and please let us all know what they find!

Being first in not always a good thing.

I think I am the first to have a rear caliper replaced (stuck piston) and the first to have an alternator replaced (very noisy) on a 2014 RT.

So I am sorry to hear about your brake fluid leak.
I hope your dealer can fix it and get you back on the road ASAP.

Called the dealer to make an appointment. Was told that they don't actually have appointment slots (just show up) but since it's the first service and I bought it from them, it will take priority over whatever else is in the shop at the moment.

As for the leak, it did drip more (I put some newspaper under it to catch them) and there's a row of drips across the bottom of the bike. Surprisingly enough, the level in the brake reservoir looks ok and there was no brake failure warning when I started it up and ran it a few feet forward and back.

Color me a little confused at the moment.

I was recently have a "Brake Failure" message on the display as well as "brake fluid low" warning. I stopped and bought some DOT 4 fluid and when I checked the levels, the rear was low. It also looked like it was leaking around the filler caps because the top of the resivour was wet.
Messages have not reappeared since filling but I am going to make an appointment with the dealer.
I remember reading some earlier posts about a V shaped slit in the rubber diaphragm under the caps. My guess would be that is the leak point.

Well I'm no longer confused. I'm a happy man!

Turns out it wasn't brake fluid; one of the crush washers on the oil drain plugs was leaking. In and out in 3.5 hours and for the first service, the only charge was for the oil and labor; filters and other parts were free. Plus I asked for and received a BUDS printout.

Anything in particular I should look at on the report?

Edit: And to make it an even nicer day, my BRP welcome kit arrived today too! Jackpot

Leak is back

Well it was good for 3 days (I was checking even though I wasn't riding due to having a cold.) Now there's a puddle under the bike again. It's definitely thin and watery with no odor. Few pictures for a frame of reference:

Brake fluid level in the reservoirs still looks ok.

:gaah:

Have you checked your coolant? That much brake fluid should show up as low in the reservoir.

Coolant level looks ok; it seems to be just touching the bottom of the filler neck (picture attached along with the brake reservoir.) Plus, I always thought coolant has a distinctive odor? This has no odor.

Just to bring this to a close my coolant leak was caused by a loose clamp on the hose that runs from the bottom of the coolant tank to the top of the water pump. All the other clamps are the crimp-on-with-a-plier type except this one; it's an old style screw worm-gear type and it was loose. About half a turn tighter and it hasn't leaked yet.

Glad to hear you got the problem solved. Thanks for posting the results. Many times we hear about the issue, but a lot of times the solution is never posted.

Thanks for letting us know as I was worried that you were loosing your blinker fluid :yikes:

It has been my findings that when you start to lose the blinker fluid ................................ your eyes get dry. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:
