There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Looking to become a Spyder owner in April 2016

I am new to this forum. I have been reading it for a couple of months looking to gain any knowledge on Spyder ownership. I finally decided to join so that I can ask questions and further the knowledge acquisition. I have been a passenger on my husbands Triumph Rocket III for several years but am new to being a rider. I had taken the motorcycle safety course before we decided to purchase a motorcycle for me and I am glad that I did because this is when I found out that I was not comfortable on two wheels. I am so excited about getting my own bike. Any information regarding the Spyder RT would be greatly appreciated. :dg2::2excited:

We have our 3rd spyder now (1 GS & 2 RTS) and love the 2014 RTS with the 6 speed automatic.
They are fun to ride and very safe and handle great in the twisties!
Good luck and enjoy when you start riding your Spyder.

Read up...

welcome to this sometimes wacky site. :2thumbs: you can download the owners manual and read through it. There is the "do's and do not's" you can read through. There are some videos you can watch that will all serve you well. Then there's us...ask away...hope your on the road soon your going to love it...

I joined the Spyder group coming from a Sport Bike. I've had nothing but fun on them. I'm currently 27 and own an 14' RTS (normally older generation rides) and I love it! You still have to lean with the Spyder to shift the weight if you want to curve a little faster than the posted speed limit. There is still that thrill and enjoyment of the open rode. If you have a chance I would hit a dealer and take a test ride. Be warned though you may want to walk out with one today! If you are set on the RT lineup then of course you will get the 1330 engine but also be warned if you like the other models with the 998 engine you should test drive those first before the 1330 as you will fall in love! Best of luck and we hope to see you become part of the Spyder family!

Welcome! You've come to the right place to learn about Spyders from owners who do love them. Yes, we do complain about some things we find irksome but no one anywhere builds a perfect product. Here is the link that will take you to the page where you can select the operator's guide(s) you want to read: http://www.operatorsguides.brp.com/...ang=E&s1=a9694907-e7ac-46cc-ba20-a047d000ded7.

The OP have given you excellent advice on resources and you must test ride to be certain you purchase the Spyder that feels the best for you. You're going to be shucking out considerable coin so test ride to your heart's content. Remember too that service after the sale is critical and not all dealerships are alike in technical knowledge and customer satisfaction focus.

Welcome

As others have said, "Welcome". You will find answers to about any question you have about a Spyder. If you really want to get replies to a question here is one you can use: "What oil should I use?" - or "I need a new tire, what should I get?" A lot of fun here on SL forum. I do have one constructive idea for you -- Join the "Girls on Spyders" on Facebook. You would be made to feel at home there as well.My daughter, Laura, is a member (Lake Rat) - she has a 2011 RT-L.

:welcome:

I love my 2014 RTS. Before that I loved my 2011 RTS. But I like the 2014 better because of the larger engine and all the advantages that come with that on the Spyder. If you want to buy an RT, I definitely recommend getting one 2-14 or later.

Hi Grace

Welcome :2thumbs:

Like you, I had never ridden a motorcycle except as a passenger; so I took the two wheel course and told my husband the first day of the riding exercises that two wheels weren't for me.

i purchased my Spyder without having ridden one. I started out riding up and down our drive-way, backing up, quick stops, etc. Before I ever got out of our yard...I was totally hooked! I've put about 500 miles on her and get more comfortable every time.

Good luck on your purchase.

:welcome: You are a perfect candidate for the RT experience. Linda (akspyderlady) started out as a passenger, and now she rides her own RT.

You already have experience as a passenger so you know what motorcycling is all about.

The transition was very easy for Linda. I gave her some basic instruction while I was riding as a passenger on my RT. After a few miles, I let her pilot solo. I rode behind on my Vulcan, we did some quiet country roads, and communicated with her through the headsets. After about 50 miles, she became more confident and has been piling on the miles since.

In summer of 2012, I purchased her a left over 2011 RT (new) and the rest is history. This is now her fourth season of riding and she has 22,000 miles--just riding weekends from Apr - Sept. She does not like the colder Oct riding that I do.

The RT offers a very comfortable riding position, has all the bells and whistles that make riding fun and comfortable. The addition of the 1330 triple cylinder has made the RT even better.

My suggestion--go for it. A new phase of fun is about to begin.

Total Fun

I'm excited for you, because, I can tell you I am still excited for me! I've been riding about a month, and for the first time in 29 years of marriage, my wife wants to ride with me on a bike... OUR Spyder RT. This morning we bought her first motorcycle jacket, then went for a nice ride out to a local art/craft fair. Given how busy things get it's nice to share this together.

I wish you well.. and great adventures.

Welcome

Like you I ( I am 5 feet 7 inches ) started out as a passenger on a the 2 wheeled motorcycles ( 16 years) I took a motorcycle coarse and got my permit, than I bought a HD traded it for a 2012RT-SE5. That was my 1st spyder a 2012RTS-SE5.

I had never ridden a spyder before, then I took the spyder on the road, went to into town ( so I could get use to the feel, and how it handled) took it to get my license ( and passed) kept the 2012RTS-SE5 for 2 years.

Upgraded to a ( my current) 2014RTS-SE6 Cognac, I really love the RT, it has quick acceleration, 1330 ACE Rotax engine, 6 speed transmission, ECO mode, Great gas mileage, comfortable seat, higher torque, smoother ride, less fill-ups, less trips to the dealership, very, very low maintance, quiter engine. My current spyder has 7,777 miles on it, I have no regrets, and I am not looking back.

Glad you found this site, we are here to help, ask questions.

Find a Can-Am dealership that has a great sales and service departments. Also, if you know of anyone that has a spyder take a test ride first. Best of luck! Deanna
