There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Looking forward to my first road trip on my Spyder

Greetings all,

I'm pretty new here. I closed the deal on a 2008 Spyder GS the Friday before Memorial day this year. I introduced myself on a thread over in the Texas forum http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?41544-New-rider-in-Pearland.

Saturday my 12 year old son and I leave together to go on our first road trip together. He's got dozens of short trips on motorcycles with me but nothing long distance. We're going to see family in Tyler Saturday and stay the night there. Then Sunday I will take him to see where my grandparents lived in Honey Grove, TX and then on to Camp Hale (http://www.halescoutreservation.org/) for a week of scout camp. Friday we are going to do the http://www.talimenascenicdrive.com/ over to SpyderPops (http://www.spyderpops.com/) place in Pearcy, AR and drop off the Spyder for his magic modifications while we hang out with some friends in Hot Springs. Then Sunday it is long drive back to Houston.

I'm excited, I think it will be an awesome bonding experience. We've got a pair of Sena SMH10 Bluetooth headsets (which rock in initial testing, quite impressed) and I have some interesting podcasts downloaded for us to talk about.

Weather is looking slightly crappy on Saturday (50% chance of thunderstorms) but I am hoping I can ride around / through with minimal suffering. It is only water, at least it won't be cold.

Just had to share with a group that would understand,
David

David that sounds like a great trip you have planned. I hope you and your son have rain gear. You won't mind riding in the rain on the Spyder as long as you stay dry. Have fun.

:2thumbs: Wow! There's nothing better than building memories with your kids. He will remember this time the rest of his life. Have a great time!

Sounds like a great trip. Hope you and your son both really enjoy it. Been a lot of years since I took my sons on similar trips. And you said it - it's only water. Don't worry too much about the rain. Have fun.

Sounds like you're really into spending time with your son that neither of you will ever forget. Enjoy scout camp, I'm guessing your also involved in that. Ride safe.

David, this will be a trip your son will never forget....Talimena will be great!!! y'all will love Spyderpops and his products....let us hear from you along the way and when y'all get home

:agree: These are the events in his young life that will stay with him forever! :2thumbs:
Even if it rains; it only adds to the spirit of the adventure!
Take some pictures so that we all can see his big grin when he's on the Spyder! :D

Way to go......It's good to see a parent spending time with thier children, especially in today's society...I think that a lot of kids that run amok do so because of bad upbringing and lack of support from thier parents.

Sounds wonderful! Nothing compares to the time you spend with your child and he will always remember this trip. Praying that you receive God's traveling grace for a safe trip.

Thanks for all the kind wishes. Rain is sitting at 50% chance for day 1. But it is only about 4 -5 hours drive even at rain speeds so I am hoping I can keep an eye on the radar and avoid the worst of it.

I'm refreshing weather.com every 15 minutes and not getting much work done...

Glad to hear about the road trip with the son. Please post some pictures. This will be one of those memories for life kind of events. :2thumbs:

Bags are packed and list is double checked.
Helmet screws are tightened.
Tire pressures are checked.
Face shields are cleaned
Intercoms are charged and Ipod loaded with travel tunes.
Topped off the gas
Grabbed some travel cash from the bank.

Ready to roll tomorrow, hope the weather between Houston and Tyler is not too miserable. 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms. But I prefer to think of the dry skies and sunshine glass as half full :).

Pictures in the morning.

You will have a wonderful time. Your son will never forget it! I had my first Spyder ride in the rain today and it was SO much better than on my bike! I was dryer and much more stable. Just have a good rain suit and you will be fine!

Please make sure your Spyder has had all of the service updates applicable to the 2008 GS. Do not assume the previous owner did this. Some of these updates are important for your safety.

Good luck with your first long distance ride. I love cross-country riding.

I commend you on bonding and building memories with your son. I just returned yesterday from the lake where I was camping with my daughter Callie(12) for a week. Just the 2 of us and I was borderline clinically depressed when we had to come home yesterday. We had so much fun I never wanted it to end. Traveling with her has always been a challenge (she is Downe's Syndrome) and this is the first year in 12 that she really had a great time. She loves to help with cooking, cleaning and loved sitting by the fire. We call her "the fish" as we spent the entire week in the water either swimming or boating on the Seadoo Speedster (Spazster as I like to call it). It will pull 2.5 G's and she screams the whole time with a huge smile on her face. Gotta be careful as you can easily eject someone out of that thing. This past week created memories that will last a lifetime for us. I hope your trip does the same for you!!!!

PS, she just woke up, ran in here and threw her arms around me giving me a huge hug as I was typing this.

Started of nice but we hit some heavy rain at Huntsville. Waiting it out for now.
