Looking for new Grips

I need some input on new grips. I really like the Kuryakyn ISO Grips but they say that they do not make them for the RT. I have looked at the Grip Buddies but I really prefer the look of the Kuryakyn. Anyone know of anything in that look available?

I recently installed the kuryakyn gold wing clamshell grips. The Lamonster garage website does a good job of explaining the process.

You'll need a Dremel or grinding wheel to reshape the lower part of the left grip, you'll remove the two rings on the end of the spyder grips, and I used wire- cutters to remove the rubber ring on the outside of the stock grips.

They look good, and the heat does transfer through. They are thicker than most grips. One word of advice -the new grips are longer than the original. Use a small length of pvc pipe inside the empty end to hold the rubber inserts firmly.

Grips for a Goldwing 1800 are designed to slip over the original heated grips of the GW. They have a rubber sleeve that slips over the original grip (heated or not) and then a clamshell style chrome body clamps over the grip's sleeve. This allows the original CA grips to remain in place but gives you a larger diameter, easier on the hand, ISO grip. The heated grips still heat satisfactorily through the K grips and are very comfortable.

A slight mod to the electric shifter is needed to allow the reverse shift to operate properly. Grinding off the top of the (-) shifter is all that is needed.

Just for the record, I sent Kuryakyn tech support a note asking if there were plans for the ISO grips to actually fit the 14 Spyder, without mods and they said no. Grinding down the shifter is not something I personally want to do. I also asked about their web site. You can put in the details of your ride, whatever it may be to get emails about specific products but they don't even have the 2014 Spyder as an option. 2013 and prior is all they have. Apparently, not a big enough market for them. Too bad. I've had the ISO grips on several motorcycles and really like them.

If you don't want to trim the shift level (which is not difficult) you could also grind the lip off the grips at the bottom. It doesnt need much.

If you love the grips that much (I like mine) then it is worth some modding.

The top of the paddle where your thumb would press for downshift is ground off so it does not hit. It's pretty clear in this picture. You can see how much material is on the bottom "flange" in relation to the top. The top has about 1/2 off. I helped someone with this and used a dremel and it only to seconds to grind that off. You could easily use a file or sand paper but it would take more time.

By the way can I just add...

Do yourself a favor and get the helmet locks that go with these grips!

They are awesome in my opinion when the wife has all the storage space taken up, you have a place to lock up your helmets

Heck, when I go to a lunch with work folks and my briefcase, riding gear, etc is burning up all the space, I use them all the time.
I do put the helmet bag around the helmet (keeps bugs and stuff out) when they are hanging locked up on the grips. I also remove my Sena BT units which takes seconds.

Hint Hint... you can hide the key and lock tabs under your glove box liner! Crap... now I told everyone where I do this..... :banghead:

This is the way I did mine...I ground the lip off the grip, took a little finesse...Look and mark twice and cut once method...Mine are the black ones...I would like to have the BLACK helmet locks but Kewlmetal never answered my e-mails or returned my phone calls...

Alas, Kuryakyn does not make the helmet locks in black.
