• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I know that someone has cut open the catalytic converter on a RT or ST. Has anyone thought to take a picture. I was just wondering how the layout inside it looked. I know WHAT is inside just not WHERE it is inside........ If you have a picture of it can you post it please.

Of course this is for educational information. No actual cats will be hurt.......No hate post please.......:p

You sure?

Little checking..!!

I saw an exhaust mod where they cut open the 90 pipe gutted it and re-welded it. I believe that was the cat they removed...:dontknow:

Here's some pics, and what it takes to do this Mod, Educational purposes only.

IMG_0163.2.jpgIMG_0166.2.jpgIMG_0168.2.jpgIMG_0169.2.jpgIMG_0170.2.jpgThe first pic shows the Honeycomb and where the intake pipes come in and at the top where the exhaust goes out (top left) this is spot welded in about 7 locations, 2 on top, 2 on each side and 3 on the bottom, this sits at the high point or hump you see on the top of the cat. The next few pics show the weld points and you can also see that there are 3 layers your cutting through, stainless steel outer, fiberglass sheet and then the inner steel. This project took a lot longer than necessary but the first is always the hardest. You can see in my cuts I went to far down but I wasn't sure what was where inside the cat, I used a Dremel, Sawsall, jig saw, hacksaw and took me about 5 hours then I remembered my Rotozip with cutting wheel attachment and this is what I suggest, wish I thought of this when I started, could have saved me 3 or 4 hours. From guessing you will need 6 to 8 cutting disc, make sure you cut the sides as close to the edge as possible then cut the end where the 2 pipes come in as close as you can then the last cut from the corner where the exhaust pipe is straight across the back. Remove the top layer and the fiberglass, pry up the third section to a point where you can rock it back and forth to break the top welds and remove it. Next take a sawsall and cut the exhaust pipe as close as possible to the case, next cut at an angle on each side of the honeycomb down to the intake pipes, bend the metal that's holding the exhaust piece you cut and remove that piece of pipe. Now take the honeycomb section and rock it back and forth until it breaks free then do the same for the top pieces of metal over and around the intake pipes. Now the hardest part is cutting the intakes, they are very close to the bottom and sides of the case, I used a metal grinder to cut as far in as possible then just twisted the metal around until they broke free. Now take a hammer and bend down the edges of the case a little along the cut and replace only the stainless top. My last problem is finding someone to weld this shut. I did this just to see if I could and save me $450 plus for a bypass pipe and as you can see it came out pretty good, still not an easy task, if you have the means get the bypass, if your concerned about emissions and a missing cat then this may be an option..........

I think that Spyd3r was cutting the exhausts up to shorten them; check with him...

yes Bob... i cut them to shorten them, but also to remove the 'inners', but not on the 'CAT' only on the mufflers... Picklehead had the RT with this muffle mod shortened 7" and i have the RS shortened by 9"... i actually have 2 versions of the RS, 1. partially gutted with CAT left in, & 2. completely gutted with a CHERRY BOMB glass pack muffler installed.
#2 sounds way better than #1...
Picklehead's RT SAM_0479.jpg and my RS #1SAM_0352.jpg and #2 SAM_0537.jpgSAM_0543.jpg if anyone would like to see what the RT 'inners' looks like, i can provide some pix...
