Looking at buyin a used F3 with low miles some questions

Hello
I'm looking at buying a used 2018 F3. It only has 259 miles! This is what scares me. The trike is 3 years old with very low miles. Any thoughts on this?

Either the buyer didn't like the Spyder ride and didn't give it a chance or thier health or job interfered with their riding plans. If the price is right I'd buy it.

Well, that is certainly very low miles. I'd first try to find out why it is so low. But perhaps the trike was sold as a left over 2018, in 2019.
That would make it maybe 2 years old. Honestly if it looked good, ran good, and the price was right I would probably give it a shot.

The low mileage can be good, OR, the low mileage can be bad. I note your 3rd post on the site. :welcome: Might be good to do some additional research.

I would for sure look up NADA or KBB price for 2018 F3 model that you are looking at. The private party sale price is the one that counts.

If its a dealer, and they are trying to get much more than that, I would recommend some caution. I would base purchase price, on year, not on how many miles driven. That would be a bonus for the buyer.

You can also request a servicing record by having an authorized dealer run the VIN. I am guessing no service performed as the recommendations for first oil change are at a little over 3,000 miles. You will for sure need to have oil and filter. Going rate at a dealer for that is $350. Battery would also be suspect if it has been sitting the whole time. If there was warranty work because it was a lemon, that should show up in your search. Very rare, but it can happen.

I have a 2019 and a 2020 F3L, and IMO, very good machines. If it passes the red flags test, you could be getting something good.

Let us know what you decide and if you do any further checking.

Check with the owner and see if it has any warranty remaining. If it does you can buy additional warranty as long as the owner hasn't already purchased extended warranty on it.

If the original owner purchased a BRP extended warranty it will transfer with the vehicle. I would think an extended warranty would be questionable because of the low mileage but you have no idea what kind of a deal or sucker bait the dealership may have used to peddle one if they did at time of purchase.

Something else to consider is .... was it EVER registered and used as a Demo ??? .... if so the BRP warranty began on the registration date ..... and is the price a Secret ???? .... Mike

if you know the VIN you can go to the BRP website and check for safety recalls. Open BRP website then click the More tab, then Ower Zone, click safety recalls. In safety recalls there is a place to enter the VIN.

With less than 300 miles I don't think it will have any kind of service record unless there was a warranty repair.

Thank you for all the help! I just put a down payment on it, doing the paperwork. Buying it from a dealer in Tampa, will have to ship it up to Maine! $13,260 with all the dealer mumbo jumbo. 2018 F3 259 miles! Up here in Maine I can't find anything. All they have at my local dealership is 1 Ryker and 30 snowmobiles.

:congrats: On the new to you 2018 F3!! Ya this time of year in Maine not many used Spyders to be had, Glad you were able to find one you like. Make sure and post a photo of your new ride in the Spyder Garage area of the forum when you get it home.
