There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. longest ride in a day???

Made it!

I pulled into Florence about 4:30 this afternoon. Ride was good, I took Rt 70 into Tennessee. What a nice road!
Actually, a 500+ mile ride isn't that bad. Butt never gets any worse after 250 miles! :)

The longest ride that I ever took, was the one home with the Missus in the Jeep after I wrecked my bike last October... I thought that ride would never end!

1018 miles

I bought a 2012 RT LTD from a wonderful couple in Lexington, KY at the beginning of August. I flew out of New Hampshire at 6am on Friday morning and arrived in Lexington, KY at 10:15am. Dennis picked me up at the airport and we drove to his business where he had the bike all ready to go. He had the bike all set up for me with a full tank of gas, a Utopia backrest, Lamont's NBV pegs and a 32oz Butler mug full of diet mountain dew as I don't drink coffee. I stopped about every 125 miles for gas, bathroom break and a refill on the Dew. After completing the paperwork and spending some time talking, I left for the trip home at 12 noon. I arrived home in NH at 4:30am on Saturday morning after 16.5 hours and 1018 miles. I have done over 1,000 miles in a day on the GoldWing trike and wanted to know if the Spyder would be good for a long day as well. IT IS!!! I had a 3 hour nap when I got home and then was out on the Spyder for the day helping friends accessorize their new GoldWing trike and showing off my new Spyder.

Just make sure that you listen to your body and if you need to stop, do so. I'm finding that as the years add up it's not as easy to do these long days as it used to be, but it's still fun trying as long as you know your limits.

I'm headed to Florence, KY this weekend for a visit with my mom. I'm seriously thinking of taking the Spyder, but it would be the longest I've been on her in a single ride (about 500-550 miles). So far, the longest seat time I have had was about 250 miles. While that hasn't been too bad, the butt know when I've gone over about 200.
So, how long does it take to get used to riding long distance? Also, any pointers as to what to take along for those "Oh :cus:" moments?

I read most everyones comments to also pick up any tricks of the long distance trade.I have gone 750 miles the furthest with ease and struggled to go 550, thought I was gonna die of exhaustion. So preperation is key, and can say that to avoid monkey butt which I got riding to Spyderfest the first time was because I had a blown rear-shock and thought it was normal. Even with the corbin seat I still didn't enjoy a ride over 400 miles. While at the fest I asked the other more experienced riders what they did for this. Some used bicycle riding shorts, and others as previously mentioned non cotton underwear. I also went and bought baby powder (cuz my tush was very sore) and the best relief and avoidance for pain was applying "Neosporin antibiotic/ pain relieving cream" That did the trick, and now that my shock is fixed and have the corbin seat, my biggest obstacle to riding 12-13 hours a day, is staying focused the last 1/3 of the trip. Becoming hydrated the day before is extremely important, along with getting a good nights sleep. (which is easier said than done, usually cause of all the anticipation for the fun ride ) I usually ride 100-125 miles the the first 3 legs with 15 minute breaks, and the the last or next 350-400 miles I stop more frequently about every 70-100 miles.

I looked at your trip on mapquest and you have 3 routes to go, between 479- 518 miles depending on your choice to travel. All 3 routes are about the same time distance of just over 8 hours. For me I would add 15 minutes for each stop for gas and 30 minutes for lunch. So depending where the gas stops are if you went 120 miles then 100 miles then 100 miles then lunch, then 70 miles ,70 miles , and then 25-50 miles for the last leg to your destination you should be fine. With this calculation leaving at 6 am you will arrive at 4pm, unless you stop to sightsee:ohyea:

I buy a box of granola bars, and keep in my trailer cold water & gatorade (much cheaper to purchase ahead of time if you are able to.) If you are just on the RT then Granola bars to snack and keep alert. Oh have a banana too in the morning for potassium, don't want to get a charlie horse riding. I also chew gum and it lasts for about 25 miles. I listen to satellite radio and "Howard Stern "helps keep me awake and the miles fly by, (not for everyone but the shock jock works for me)

Have a great ride and let us know how it goes

Long rydes

On my long ryde of 1860 miles round trip to SITR this August what I found to help was to use a gel pad for my seat that straps on. I would do one fill up (about 125 miles) with it on, and the next with it off. This way my seating position changed.

Another thing I did was when it was really hot (105 to 115) was to leave early in the morning, and stop at a movie theater for three hours during the mid-day sun.

Drink plenty of water, and at least one bottle of Gatorade (or similar type) per day for the electrolyte.

My longest day of riding was coming home from Spyder in the Adirondacks last month. We did around 40 miles in the morning then left around 2pm and did 680 more miles and got home at 2am. We pretty much did fuel stops and quick drink, bite to eat and bathroom that is it. So basically 720 miles in one day. I could have done more as long as I kept the coffee flowing in and out :)

Dave, all the advice given pretty much covers it. Hop in the saddle and go, enjoy the ride and freedom of being on the open road. May want to take a road unkown some times. Ride safe and enjoy.

634

Easley, SC to Dunedin, FL... 634 miles/15 hours, half in light rain... stopping for gas/food along the way... Rt. 25 south to 221 thru Georgia into Florida to Perry, then finally Rt. 19 (Highway from Hell) to Dunedin.... not bad, butt got a little tender, however all and all, not bad enough to that i wouldn't do it again...
