There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. First and formost if doing a long ride, is the proper under pants. Get good riding undees so you and boys stay comfortable.
2. I was planing on going also. I have heard some bad reports about the Missouri spyderfest.
I am hoping to get some more feed back before I spend money and time on it.
I think Long distant rides are best alone are small group.
Sorry more to the gear besides undees, rain gear and pull over your boots. I bought some nice rains pull over boots and calfes from Cycle Gear.
3. I bought luggage webs for inside of side and trunk lids. suprizing how handy they work and hold.
4. Just get out there and do it. If you need something its never to far to a store.

Packing

You need a total of 5 days clothing. A couple of pairs of pants. Pack all that up in an Ortlieb dry bag, and secure that with giant loop flat straps. Luggage goes inside at night. Frunk gets gloves(hot, cold, wet cold, glove covers) rain pants, toolkit, sewing kit(army issue), and first aid kit. Do a couple of weekend trips before SF to shake down gear. Get a riding jacket that is waterproof (the cavalier is good, Aerostich Darien, road rafter, or Klim. Why carry 2 jackets?) Figure out what does more things. Pack light. Hooah!

CptJAM and I wear textile jacket and pants that are 100% waterproof that way we are ready for whatever comes our way. Too often I see people get soaked before they can get their rain gear on and I'm glad that I'm prepared in advance. I wear a Can-Am Cavalier jacket and Aerostitch Darien pants but there are others out there that are equally as good.

If you plan to do laundry take quarters and some of those laundry pod detergent things along with dryer sheets. I also only pack dark colors so that I only have to do one load of laundry. Nothing would be worse than to have to sit through two loads of laundry in your hotel when you could be having fun. Roll your clothes - they take up less space that way.

Regarding soft sided saddlebags. I also have the Nelson Riggs with the rain covers - they WILL eventually soak through no matter how you put on the covers. I learned to keep a couple of large black garbage bags handy. They work great as bag liners or for stuffing dry clothes in. In a pinch, put them over the bags and under the rain covers. Rode though torrential rains and while I got wet my gear stayed dry.

All of the above is good, good, good.

Bring more money ( cash too) than you think youll need.

:agree: Any trip especially spyderfest! Load out as you would any trip, keep the roadside assistance number & info handy, scout list of dealer/repair shops along your route. Dont test the gas gauge on trip, Know it first! I see u have a ST-S  Look into the SMOOTHSPYDER backrest. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1452064061.256275.jpgMakes world of difference on long runs, great for flags too. I made 1200-1400m trip to southern most point key west FL, I added a sissybar bag locked to my passenger gripsImageUploadedByTapatalk1452064130.388441.jpg, could carry extra few days of clothes, handy. Found better replacement bag from rivico @ festImageUploadedByTapatalk1452064212.105147.jpg works great

Canam bags are out if my budget, plus I am getting RT envy and may want to trade up next year or the year after.

I take an iPad wherever I go. My cell phone duals as my GPS. It is on a Ram mount with a waterproof case when I ride.

My next main purchases will be the rain gear, a Sena, and potentially the soft bags listed above, but I may just use my duffel. I will also pick up some little items like the tire repair and first aid kit.

Lots of folks have gone to Spyderfest on one machine and gone home on another. (CruzrJoe, for one) So make sure you credit is in order! nojoke

Most has been covered

I was making my list when I read that you do not have trailer...so I went back to when I traveled 20k+ a year without a trailer for 4 years. Highly recommend your bags, etc. be WATERPROOF (100%).,..water resistant won't get the job done..I also have a small First Aid kit, Toilet Paper, Cup holder (2 actually) on handlebars..and survival kit (that if I had to I could be in freezing weather for 48 hrs and survive)..much of my traveling on Spyder is backroads and alone...so I also carry a SPOT tracker (plus kids can check on me!!)..maps ( hate GPS...have one but seldom used)..cords for all your devices...if you wear Rx glasses an extra pair...separate list of all pertinent #'s like for credit cards, etc. give copy to someone you can call and put a list in safe place on :ani29:.
Then make a list...check it twice...Most of all put on your WAHOO adventure hat and GET READY for memories...
I always spend sometimes asking myself "What is the worst thing(s) that could happen and then have the answers done before hand. Eliminates fear and worry...cause I'm into totally enjoying my trip no matter what comes my way!! Sure looking forward to meeting you.:yes:

Joe,
I really like your card...
If I email you some ideas; could you help me put one together? :dontknow:
Thanks!

Hey Bob, here is an image of my card, front and back. Got them from Vistaprint. Really easy to do your own design on their site, upload a photo, etc. I have made new riding friends just by putting one on a parked Spyder.

That's where my natural laziness turned out to be smart...
I only had to put one name on the card! :D

Sometimes: "Lazy" acts a lot like "Smart".
It's just working at a slower pace.

WELL, FROM PAST EXPERIENCE. Take what you need, pack what you can, and have room for, and for all other instances bring a credit card or cash. Trust me I know .

Can you tell name what Spyder you are riding, I am looking for a bag for a 2017 F3T. Thanks big time

Hmmmm I see...

RAIN GEAR!!! nojoke
This should be your FIRST consideration. A trip of this length will test your mettle, if you're soaked to the bone.
TOOLS:
Bring along some Torx wrenches, a spare quart of oil, some duct tape, a decent air pressure gauge that you trust, some flashlights (You NEVER have enough!)
CLOTHING:
There are several approaches to this:
1.Bring a minimal amount, and wear it until people only approach you from upwind... :barf:
2. Bring old clothes, throw them out and buy replacements!
3. Mail your dirty laundry home... (Don't tell the USPS what's in the package... let them learn the HARD way!)
4. Truck everything that you need to Missouri, and don't worry about space considerations
As for me: I'm a firm believer in tactics 1 and 2...

Well thank goodness I came across this...My wife lead me to believe the Frunk was for her shoes, hair dryer, cosmetics, and flattening iron...bahhhh ahahahah:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:
