There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Locking brakes

I have ridden my Spyder 3,000 miles. Last week I was going to get gas when the brakes started getting tighter and tighter until it wasn't going any more. I shut the bike down and it seemed to help some. After I stopped and shut the Spyder down, as I left there the brakes started to tighten again and I just tapped the brake pedal and it released some. I sprayed linkage with WD-40 but haven't driven it since. Any help would be appreciated, Thank you, Les.

If you're saying that all three brakes were tightening up, I haven't heard of that one before.

If it was the rear only, the parking brake could be adjusted too tightly, warming up after dragging, expanding and tightening the pads on the rotor.

On your parking brake, how many "clicks" does it take to lock it down?

Locking Brakes

I think that all the brakes locked, the way it acted. I had trouble with the parking brake before as I had to push real hard as it wasn't holding then I couldn't get the parking brake pedal to release until I crawed under the Spyder and hand released it. When the brakes was locking up, it looked like the parking brake wasn't holding as I had to push on the foot brake pedal to lock the parking brake and I had to do this 3 times before the parking brake would hold. The parking brake takes all the clicks and then some to lock.

Then, at a minimum, we can probably rule out the parking brake adjusted too tightly. :dontknow:

Past that, like I said, I haven't seen or or heard about something like this before. Perhaps someone will chime in who has seen this.

Someone else had this happen while riding - but they had added a handbrake and I believe that was the cause of the 'locking' problem.

Have you done any mods to the brakes like adding a handbrake?

Is this an SE5 or SM5?

The brakes on the Spyder are electronically distributed. This could be something more complex than a simple sticky pedal or hanging brake caliper. I'd see my dealer ASAP.

Locking Brakes

I prayed and was able to fix the problem. I shortened the brake push rod 1/2 turn to get a little clearance. After this no more problem. I remembered a truck in which I had installed a new master cylinder kit. I checked the length of the plunger and they were idenical but truck had this problem and I would have to go and release the brakes. I double checked and still had the problem so I removed the plunger and sanded it down some and then it worked fine. The problem was that the rubber plugged the return hole by not releasing far enough thereby uncovering the return hole. Spyder acted the same way. I thought that the parking brake was connected to the master cylinder. When I was told that the parking brake only did the back wheel then I knew what the problem was. Thank you, attaDude. :2thumbs::clap:Les
