• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

lock keys in storage trunk

When my bike key slipped out of my hand just as I was closing the frunk.......I was in deep do-do. I young man riding with us has a medium length small screwdriver and he slid it in at the top of the frunk where it latches and popped the frunk open. Relief and yes, I now carry both keys with me.

I called my dealer and his response was "well, if you can get the bike back here to the dealership we will look at it" REALLY??? If I could have towed it somewhere it would to my house where there was another key..........jerk

Then there was the one about the Blonde Woman who pushed the ONSTAR button in her car. They asked her what was wrong. She said "Can you please help me. Somehow I locked myself INSIDE my car. My keys are on the ground I can see them through my window."

Have a spare key made and carry it on you or maybe secured somewhere on the bike. It won't start the bike but will open the saddle bags and either trunk. When we're traveling 2-up my wife and I both carriy one. Hopefully, we won't both do something stupid at the same time.

A good argument for carrying that spare key all the time. I have been doing it since the 1960's when I locked my keys in the car once. Never happened to me since.

Unless accidentally dropped in when frunk is closing, why is your key ever not in your pocket when you get off. just curious. :joke:

I guess I just learned from my sister's putting there keys in there purse and then putting the purse out of site in the car and locking the car. I am younger then them, I always put my keys in my pocket or if I am using the IPS i make sure and take my jacket with me. I hope this never happens to me because if it does my wife and daughters will get a huge laugh out of it. :doorag:

Replacement Key Cost - Need some advice!

I just managed to lose one of my Spyder keys so obviously I need to have another one made before I lose my other one. I called a local dealer and they want $45 for a blank. Then they say they can't cut it so I need to take it somewhere to have it cut and then bring it back to them and they'll program it for another $40. My first problem is that the cost will be higher than what I've seen others here mention. And my second problem is that they have to wait until the key is cut before they can program it. Does that make sense? Do they need to be able to put the key in the Spyder to program it??? I could use some advice from the SLW (SpyderLovers Wizards). Thanks!

The answer is yes. The spare programmed key is inserted into the ignition while the BUDS is hooked up to the bike so they can clone the code. Old key is removed, new key is inserted and the code is transferred. Your basic copy and paste operation. $45 for the blank, $5+ for the cut (Home Depot and Lowes cannot/will not do this operation because of the chip and the don't have the die, at least they didn't several years ago. Ask your dealer if there is a mobile key cutter that comes to their lot) and ANOTHER $45+ to program the key. Thats cheaper than replacing your ignition.
