• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Light Changer

It is in Australia, however, I beleive our traffic light systems work more on the amount of metal detected in a magnetic type loop (please, someone correct me if I'm wrong):dontknow:

I have had it go either way. If i center up on the lane and pull all the way to the front edge it will usually trip the light however some of the larger sensors i have had it not trip. Here in TN its legal to go through the red light if you have waited long enough and no one is coming.

The sensor pad works on the detection of metal (something about disruption of existing magnetic field).

Here is a trick I learned from someone .... glue on a small piece of magnet (the metal kind not that plastic crap) under the frame and that will make your bike look like a mack truck to the sensor.:2thumbs:

For any one who may not understand - the vehicle trigger system is activated by having something magnetic interrupt an existing magnetic field. Vehicular mass will do this. A motorcycle will also ALWAYS do this. Here comes the technical part.....just because the field wire is installed, does not mean it has been calibrated. Most of the time the installer sets it to a middle or average setting. This will work fine for anything but most motorcycles. If you find that the Spyder is not tripping the system, it needs to be reported to your local roads maintenance department. Hint..if it is a numbered road, the state usually is responsible, otherwise it would of course be a county or city responsibility. For most calls, the respective department of highways maintenance would be a best starting point. Hope tyhat helps. Short version - Yes, the Spyder is big enough to trip the system if it has been calibrated correctly. And as a taxpaying ryder, you have the right to expect it to be calibrated - after all , that is your tax dollars at work, may as well get something usable for those dollars.

Thanks to all who responded.

I am always amazed at the knowledge I find on this site.

I any of you ever need the advice of an actuary (don't we all!!!), just give me a holler!

Is the Spyder heavy to to trip the light sensor or should I get a Rd Light Changer?

Thanks.

I have a problem traffic light near my home. With my Concours, I used a green light trigger. I have found that the Spyder trips the light on its own. Just my experience. YMMV.

My uncle predicted the year month and day he would die.
It was the same time the Judge said.

just kidding.

I have one on my Roadglide it is just a real powerfull magnet they go for around 16 /20 dollars I forgot most H-D dealers have them and I think JP cycles has them also but you have to be right on the wire in the pavement not always effective :spyder:I forgot the brand name next time I'm there will find out:dontknow:

Out here, I've only run into a few that Spydie won't trip. Most of the time, the road crews have marked the lines for me so I just be sure the bulk is directly over a line -- then it will trip the light. Have had to call the county on a few lights they forgot to mark the trip lines..

I would like to die like my Grandfather..peacefully, in his sleep...and certainly not like the other four people screaming in his car.....:)
