• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ok, I know i'm not a handy person at all esp when it comes to vehicles. But I would think installing my license plate would be easy peasy...apparently not. I'm using the handy tools that came with the spy, but i keep turning the 2 screws and am getting nowhere. Yes I know, righty tighty, lefty loosey. Heck i've even tried unscrewing the nuts from the back. What the heck am i missing? if i have to go to my dealer and ask them to do this when i get my risers installed i'm gonna be pissed! :banghead::banghead::banghead:
 
How do i get a stripped nut/bolt or whatever it is off? I even brought out the drill and that didn't do crap. This sucks.
 
It takes two wrenches hold the backside of the nut the turn the side were your plate goes to lossen the bolt.

Stripped Threads

I just installed my new license plate today. It required a #10 mm open end wrench on the back side plastic sleeved nut and the large * driver in the front side bolt head.

Righty Tighty
Lefty Loosey
should be off less than 20 revolutions

really, at this point a picture would help a great deal. Something is not holding, wrench size, correct driver head..hard to say... :dontknow:
 
I have a license plate frame that is installed over the plate. I use reflectors with the springs, a lock washer, and the wing nuts to install my plates on both :spyder2:'s. I can hold the wing nut with my fingers and hand tighten the reflector. I have never had one come loose in 34K miles. The reflectors are in all four holes on the license plate and frame.

Time to bust out the zip ties.
 
FINALLY

It took me 2 days and lots of elbow grease but I finally managed to get them off. There is some nasty yellow stuff on the bolt part so not sure what that was all about. Went to ACE and got new bolts. What a pain that was but glad I was able to do it on my own! :):yes: And to think I want to try to install my own handle bar risers...ha! I think after this fiasco i'll leave that one to the pros!

Thread locker. That's used on all the body panel bolts/screws. I can't imagine that would cause the problem.
 
The body panel screws are not suppesed to be used for the license plate. That's an error on your dealer's part. Fasteners with the ecapsulated epoxy ScotchGrip take more torque to loosen them than they did to fasten them.

I used 4 rear fender nuts & bolts to install my license plate, 2 on the top & 2 on the bottom. On the bottom I moved the bottom holes together about 1/8 of an inch and drilled holes through the rubber backing. It makes it harder to steal and stops it from vibrating at highway speeds and it looked better. That's IMHO

I put my plates on today also. It is a pain, but after finally finding the right socket to fit the nuts on the backside and the right torx tool for the bolts, I got it done. I got my white 2013 RT Ltd 2 weeks ago :) and just had my 600 mile check up yesterday. Now it looks like I'll be going back for the new recall :shocked: sometime soon. I joined here yesterday and have already learned a lot from you guys. Thanks for sharing so much knowledge on the Spyders.

TORX ?????, I think you are using the wrong type of bolt as Scotty said.......sounds like a body panel bolt

If you received those " BOLTS " as extras from the dealer you won the lottery.....they cost over $ 5 EACH.......not kidding :clap: :yes::yes::yes: :agree:....Mike :thumbup:
