There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. led headlights stop working when I sit in traffic for a long time?

The last 2 times I have sat in traffic for longer then 20 mins one of my headlights always stop working. I replace ballast and it works then if I sit in traffic for a long time the same bulb keeps going out. What am I missing? Do I need to replace the whole set or what is going on? I have had the lights on my bike for the last year but I just recently started having issues.

I take it that these are not factory lights, right ?
That's kind of an important detail.

HID ballasts can get VERY hot and need good air flow to prevent burn out.

The ones you chose might not be a good fit for your Spyder.......and your riding conditions.

Brand and type of bulb ( HID or LED) might help. Any problems with the :spyder2: itself over heating???? Too bad the traffic in your area is so congested but better on a :spyder2: than a 2 wheeler. My V-Max does not like congestion at all and will run it's fan ( noisy ).

Lots of people here have LED's with no problems, especially on the cooler running :spyder2:'s.

Good luck.

I know you said you have LED's. Early on, like 2008-2009, HIDs were the thing. But, there was an issue where you located the ballast which would cause them not to function. Your ballast and its location may not have the same effect as HIDS. Also, when there was a problem, it was with the GS/RS.

Its likely the generic LEDs you used cannot handle the heat and higher charging voltage of the Spyder. Suggest getting a set from Lamonster Garage that are know to work well in this application.

I installed a set of LED headlights that I bought on eBay last year. They have LED's on four sides and are far superior to the factory lights that came on it. They are YITA Motor brand and cost me about $12 after using a $25 coupon that I got from eBay. These are the ones that Joel the Biker wrote about on here. Don't know if they are still available or not, seems like the brands on some of the Chinese stuff changes in the blink of an eye. I've never had a single problem with them and I was able to squeeze the ballast in the box for the headlight.

I would suspect that it is an issue of the ballast getting too hot, especially if the only time this happens is when you're tied up in traffic. Do you know if this happens at any other times? Is it only the one light that has a problem? If so, it's probably just a less than perfect assembly. If there is any kind of warranty, I would see about getting it replaced.

Is the kind you bought by the company [h=2]oEdRo?[/h]

It is definitely an overheating issue.
Which is why I'm happy that I got mine from TricLEDs: no problems whatsoever!
(But the ones from Lamont do a really nice job also...)
