Leaky Clutch master Cylinder... damaged the CHAD. + other questions

Oy.

So about 2+ weeks ago was my 600 mile service. The day after I got the service done, I noticed that there was brake fluid seeping from the clutch reservoir cover and gasket. Figured they checked the fluid level/topped it off. So I wiped it down.

The next weekend, I noticed it was still a bit wet, so I wiped it down again, and tightened the bolts a hair. Wife and I then went for 120 mile ride.

Today, I finally get around to washing my spyder. After washing the spyder I noticed some spots on the inside of the CHAD near the top that didn't ash off. A microfiber cloth and tint safe cleaner didn't work, and harder scrubbing with the cloth only imparted some fine scratches.

The only thing I can think of causing the marks is the the brake fluid leak from the clutch cover was more than I thought it was, and that the turbulent air behind the CHAD sprayed it on the shield. HOWEVER.. there were no marks on my helmet, cluster window, plastic trim, etc...and the wind would have turned it to a fine mist anyway/mostly. So I'm not sure my theory is correct. Maybe it was something they sprayed at the dealer... Beats me.. What's done is done. It's not that bad, just pisses me off as I've only had the CHAD 4 weeks.

I pulled the cover off the clutch lever today and wiped everything dry, and replaced. I'll have to go for a ride to see if it is going to leak more.

Finally, - All my other bikes were chain drives. When checking the oil last week I looked over at the front drive pully and noticed what looked like oil seepage on the side of the motor neat that pully. I took my finger and wiped it, and it turns out to be belt fibers/shavings. Not a lot, but I don't know what a lot is for a belt drive.

Question is... Is it normal to have fine belt shavings in that area???

I can't say if its normal but I too have belt shavings there. You are not alone.

I figure that the belt don't last forever and at least part of the reason is that its wearing away. Those shavings are the evidence of that.

:agree: Yepper... normal for mine, too. Note the black dust on the rear wheel... not necessarily all brake dust there, either.

They should have not needed to mess with the clutch fluid at 600 miles - and you don't need to open the cover to see the level.

As far as the CHAD damage - I'm got some scratches on mine too -figure just one of those things that happens.

The belt dust is perfectly normal.

Acrylic is not polycarbonate...it will scratch more easily (and can shatter too)...
