Laser Alignment

Last fall I had the Spyder, 2011 RTS SE5, laser aligned. I took the GloRyders off so they wouldn't interfere. Guess I got lazy this winter and never put the GloRyders back on. So now getting ready for SpyderFest and decided to reinstall the GloRyders. Took the BRP cap off the right side with no surprises. Took the BRP cap off the left side and found a small magnet cylinder hiding in there! It's about 1/4" x 1/2". I'm assuming it has no purpose, mistakenly left there by the guys doing the laser alignment. Am I correct?

That would be my guess. Prob came out of the level when they pulled them off and didnt realize it.

I don't know who did his alignment but I heard that the first batch of lasers that Rolo sold had bad glue and the magnets fell off. So what you have is a rare earth magnet.

Ann is correct....

We control what we manufacture …what we cannot control is outside sources….I see by Lamont’s latest thread that he is also having problems with the manufacture of his latest products he has for sale…so we are NOT alone with this problem.

The adapters that fit into that hub cap area have 4 rare earth magnets attached inside them, to hold them perfectly to the hub surface. In the initial order from the machine shop they used excessive machining oil to drill out those holes( they used what they normally used but it was excessive to us)…and even thou we cleaned them thoroughly, a tad bit of oil residue was left in some of the holes leading to magnets that “could” fall out. The glue stuck to the magnet NOT to the adapter...The same ran true with the rare earth magnets that are located at the base of the lasers.

As soon as we realized that we might have a problem…we asked the machine shop to use no oil…it just meant we had to buy more drill bits as the friction caused by no oil made the drill bits wear out faster.

If this does occur while we are setting up to do a laser alignment, we normally notice that the adapter has some play in it….it has to sit firmly against that hub to get a proper laser measurement. It also happens when there is debris in that hub area OR we have seen excessive factory paint build up in that area that requires the tech to clean out with a dremmel before he begins.

In conclusion the problem has been solved…we believe we have all the quirks worked out and are manufacturing a perfect True Laser Track/ ROLO laser alignment system which is now recommended by BRP.
