• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Lamont's new belt tensioner

.

I plan on getting this if it will fit my 2014 RTS. I believe it will and I have asked Lamonster Garage about fitment. I have Doc's dampener now and it's due for replacement.

Spring.

This damper looks to be using the same type spring as fitted to Doc Humphries unit. This spring was very prone to snapping at the very tight bend at the fixed end. Doc came out with a modified spring which has lasted for 35000 miles on my RT.

These look like a great idea. Has anyone had a bearing failure and ruined a belt? Any opinions which is better lamonster or smooth spyder?

If you have a properly tensioned belt, is this really necessary?

I used to keep my belt at the right tension but found I still got vibration starting at around 5k revs on my RS2011 that seemed to be coming from the belt. Getting a ( in my case Smooth Spyder) belt tensioner fixed the issue.

I have a 14 RTS with 22K on one of Doc's dampeners. I finger checked the bearing slack and there wasn't any. I'm guessing their lifetime is 25/30K so I zip tied it up and off the belt to avoid any possible belt damage. As I understand when they go bad they tend to go fast. I'm due for a new rear tire so I'm going to set my belt tension at about 160 on the kricket scale and see how that works. The current belt tension is 210. My 70/72 MPH vibration is not a bad vibration.

Factory/shop belt tension is too tight. Causes vibes. I'm at 140 rear wheel off floor. I get a wee vibe at about 72 mph and can ride around it.

It sounds like the vibration issues are more prevalent on the longer belt models with the 79t rear pulley. My 89t rear pulley F3S comes standard with a tensioner, and I notice zero vibration issues. Is it the shorter belt? Is the tensioner/damper doing its job? A bit of each? :)
