• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Lamonster RTW Project- Drift HD170

I really love my Drift HD170 for shooting HD videos and just started using it with the remote for taking pics. The last time I took pics with it I had it mounted on the trunk and that worked fine but now I'm wanting something a little more fixed. I decided to mount a RAM ball on my side deflector shields on the inside so it doesn't disturb the air flow when the camera is not mounted. You pretty much wouldn't even know it's there if you weren't looking for it. I'm pretty happy with this location. :doorag:

Taken with it mounted on the trunk and shot going down the road.

I found that particular mount location to be one with minimal camera vibration and a great forward view when I tested out various mounting position for my Drift HD. I also liked the front trunk lid but was a bit squeamish about using my untethered suction cup in that location. Since I had plans to relocate my Zumo to my dash I will just order another mount mechanism at the same time and follow your lead on this mod.

Great timing for you to post this! I have been trying various locations over the past few days and tried that location using the suction mount and like the view but suction cup makes me nervous. Can you provide ram parts list please and how did you attach it to the shield?

This is what I ordered from GPS city. I got extra ball mounts and two arms. I just drilled a hole in the deflector and tapped the ball to work with a M6 screw.

2ea RAM Mount Medium Arm B-Socket RAM-B-201U 2ea $11.95ea $23.90
6ea RAM Mount Plastic Flange Base with B-Ball RPR 6ea $2.95ea $17.70

Videos Please!

Looks Great!

I just bought a DRift HD170 from B&H and would like to see some raw unprocessed video shot from this location if possible. Probably will mount mine there too but would like to see quality first.

...and with the chrome deflector shield, you won't even see the mount. An other amazing idea Lamonster, Thanks.

Well that worked so well that i thought I would try another location. I this this it going to work well too. :doorag:

Nice! That one I might like even better since you can easily see if power on and turn power on and off from seat of spyder. Also a slightly higher view angle I would guess?

Yes, those were great shots you took today for sure! I bought mine thinking mainly for video, but after doing some still pics, I think I may end up using it more for stillls than videos. Opps, an evil on my checkbook thought just entered my mind where I have 2 Drifts, one set for video, one set for stills and two remotes. LOL

What SD Card do you use?

Hey Lamont,

The docs for the drift recommend Class 4 SD Cards which write are 4 MB/Second. That seems slow to me to capture HD video. I would think the faster the better like maybe a class 10 at 10 MB/per second.

What do you use and are you happy with the results at 1080P? ID the class of the card by looking for a "C#" on the card.

I am looking at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004WZJXDE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER which is a Class 10 but will write at 20MB/second. Maybe it is overkill but it is actually cheaper than the same size Class 4 card http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Memory-P-SDHC32G4-AZ-Frustration-Free-Packaging/dp/B004WZJXR0.

I have not shot 1080 yet but I am using a class 4 and a class 10 and they both look the same to me. :dontknow:

LAMONT
Do you think that the weight of the water bottle and the bouncing might crack or break the deflector. Especially with only only one screw holding the ball base down. No weight distribution. :dontknow:

The way I have it I don't think so, the ram mount is resting on the dash.
