• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

As a rider I've found myself in the middle of nowhere with a dead battery or ran up on riders that needed a jump. I had this happen twice while in Sturgis and I was able help a couple of riders out and give them a jump with my jump pack. The problem I found is some of the cheaper jump packs don't last long or they can be damaged by accidentally touching the leads together. So after killing a few of the ones I had I decided to go on the hunt for a really good one. I knew I wanted at least 600A peak power or more and wanted one that would hold a charge when I needed it the most. My search led me to the Rugged Geek RG1000. It had great reviews and one of them was from one of my V8 Bike Rider friends. I knew if it was good enough for him it had to be great.


The first thing that caught my eye was the case itself. It looks like a tire and I thought that was cool. Then I saw it had 1000A peak power with two 2.1A USB ports for charging your phone and it even has a port for charging a laptop. It also has a built in flashlight. The other thing I liked was it has a on/off switch that's easy to tell if it's really off or not. I can't tell you how many times I thought I turned the other packs off and I didn't and wound up draining the battery down to the point that it was too low to use for a jump start. I've used the RG1000 to jump bone dead Spyders and it cranked them right up. This is a Lamonster approved product and that's why we brought them in the store. It takes up very little room and I won't go on the road without it. Great to charge those dead cell phones too.

Thanks Lamont.......it looks great, but it's a bit hard to tell if it comes with swappable power plugs for other countries. Are you able to confirm if it does?

Have the Antigravity myself and has helped a few out of a jam. They are well worth it and take up little space. :thumbup:

I can envision the cable clamps have to be replaced with smaller clamps. Or, the addition of some small clamps with pigtail leads which will allow an easy hook up to the battery terminals. Most if not all M/C batteries are located deep in the recesses of most bikes and most of the clamps can't access the battery terminals. Try it out before you need it rather than the other way around.
 
I bought one last year. Used it on vacation to keep my phone charged. I did find that when charging my phone that things can get hot. I took the back cover off the phone and kept it in the air while charging.
 
I keep my phone charged using the battery lead I use for my heated jacket. When I use Google maps it sucks the life out of my phone battery. I keep the phone in a cradle between the handle bars and it gets plenty of air flow. But, I know what you mean about the phone heating up when charging. Makes a body want to keep a fire extinguisher handy.

I was thinking why don't they have a pigtail like a battery tender, so that if you have a powerlet outlet you can plug into it. The problem is the amp draw, and the need for the wire sizing and clamps that come with the RG1000. With my 2008GS model, I'll have to remove panels. I guess I'll continue to replace my battery every 3 years, and not worry about it.

That's a great question. I've purchased items in the past, and in fact yesterday, where you chose UK, EU, or U.S. plugs. It's too bad, if they don't, they may lose some business, unless someone wants the added expense of purchasing an adapter.

You don't have to remove any panels to jump start. Just lift the seat. The jump start posts are right there.
 
I had an Anti Gravity and for a while I kept it on the Spyder then all of those phones started catching fire and I worried that this battery could do the same. A few months ago my Spyder wouldn't start and I went to use it and found that the battery had begun to bulge. :yikes: Cycle Gear exchanged it for a new one (hadn't even bought it from them) and now I keep it at home unless I'm on a trip.
