• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Lamonster 2013 handling disclaimer

I sure hope

Somebody isn't giving you the business because they are having a problem with their new '13. If you want something that is tested and mostly bug free, don't buy the first ones off the line, let somebody else work the bugs out. If you want to be on the bleeding edge of anything, you better bring band-aids.

Lamonster, thanks for all you do!

Lamont,

You gave us your honest opinion/assessment based on your experience...no one in their right mind could assign responsibility to you for something totally beyond your control or knowledge at the time of your test runs.

I for one am thankful to you and others with a wealth of experience/knowledge for sharing with the rest of us. Please don't stop!!!

:agree: :2thumbs:

Those who bought the new 2013's should glad they didn't buy the Boeing Dreamliner!

Think how those people feel.

Scary thought. I wondefr what limp mode would bring on at 30,000 ft ????

I go along with all the others in thanking you for this site. I was unhappy with my GS going into limp mode, until I discovered the problem on here. Loose foot on the operater part, brake pedal.

If I eat a strawberry and report that strawberries are sweet and delicious does that mean ALL strawberries are sweet and delicious? No, some will be under or over ripe. Would I be responsible for that? No.

I can understand that people are upset if their $$ toy is acting up and I always, always suggest a test drive that lets you feel how a vehicle responds to real world driving. But, they shouldn't take any frustration out on you.

I've heard for years "never buy a car/truck/etc on it's first production run of a new style or major update". The same holds true on software. No matter how much testing a company does pre-release until it's out there in the real world bugs are still going to pop up. Fact of life and technology. Hopefully BRP irons out any issues soon so that the new riders will love their spyders as much as we do!

Lamonster 2013 Spyders

Lamonster
I read and studied you and Spyderlovers.com for almost a year before I purchased my 2012 RT.I can;t begin to tell you how much I appreciated all the information and how to's the convinced me to go ahead and get my RT.You have no reason to fel bad for your review of the 2013 ST.I agree with so many of the other comments submitted that you have helped so many Spyder owners with their issues and how to do and install after market componets.Keep on doing what you do and nver look back..........................Monterey

Spyders owners and riders as well as BRP and many vendors owe you a debt of gratitude for this incredible forum.

We hold you in the highest regard but we will never expect you to be perfect, no one is, ever was, or ever will be.

I don't feel your ST recommendation was ever in error seeing that that you reported on the sample you were given. The problem showed up only later on the production models and has since been identified as an adjustment issue found only on a percentage of new models.

You are and remain, without doubt, one of the most respected authorities of the Can-Am Spyder in the world.

the "monster"

I know I was pretty excited to tell you all about the handling on the 2013 Spyders that I rode. I know there is a lot of responsibility anytime I post something like that and my reputation is also on the line. I just want to say that ALL the 2013 Spyders that I rode handled great and the ST I have here now handles great. That's all I had to go by.

I also know that not all but some of the 2013 are having handling issues and they have been reported here on SL and it's not just new riders getting use to the Spyder. BRP are aware of these reports and are working on a solution. I'm confident that this problem will be worked out just like the DPS on the early GS/RS Spyders and the throttle body on the RT's.

I really wish that this would be the year there were no issues on the production units but it seems that no matter how many test miles they put on the Spyder there still seems to be issues that show up after the customer gets it in their hands. I guess this is an issue that almost all manufactures have.

The reason for this post is I can only go by what I rode and had no clue that there was going to be any issue with the production 2013, if I did I wouldn't have given it such rave reviews. I've worked hard though the years to give an honest opinion of products I've tested and I would never give a favorable review on something that I felt had issues. I would still recommend the 2013 with the disclaimer that some 2013 Spyders are having handling issues and to take a test drive at all speeds to make sure the one you buy doesn't leave the dealership without you feeling confident in the ride and handling. I hope this problem will go away soon and there will be less reports of handling issues just like the DPS and the throttle bodies.

Lamont, I know we all joke around a little and that is great! But seriously, your word is good enough for me. You tell it like it is and you don't pull punches. Thank you for what you do.

IMG-20121104-00130.jpg Etch A Lamonster.. My granddaughter helped me do this, she said "Poppy, that's the Monster" Well,,, she was close anyway.

Thank you Lamonster for your honest and forthright statement about the 2013's and the handling issues.

I hope BRP is able to step up to the plate and get the problems/issues solved timely. I am guessing there is a lot riding on all that.

My God! How could ANYONE who has visited this site more than a couple of times question your veracity or intentions? What HAVEN'T you done for the Spyder community and for the cause of safe and reliable riding? I'm sorry if someone has questioned your report on riding the 2013s. An attack on you is an attack on all of us because many, many, many of us share information here as you have.

As Bajaron so wisely stated: you can't be held responsible for what you don't know.

For what it's worth, you have my full and absolute support.

we used to have a saying ... "It takes 1000 hours in the test lab to stress test what 1000 customers can do in an hour!" maybe not entirely true ... but you get the idea. it's why problems don't show up many times until you get a critical mass of users. just imhbao!

REVIEW

I bought my ST-S last month due to liking the looks of it and due to Lamont's review. I have over 700 miles on it and have no issues whatsoever. Lamont has been gracious in answering my emails before and after purchase. Although I won't be able to attend Spyderfest, Lamont I look forward to meeting you at your BBQ and the owners event and shaking your hand!

I'm lovin my 2013 RT-S and again thank you for your advice. I know that I will have issues in the future. I don't know a machine that doesn't. With that said I am glad that I waited. (for some of those months I had no choice).

Lamont ,Thanks so much for all you do for Spyder Ryders. !!:firstplace::bowdown::bowdown:

Since spyders are assembled on assembly lines by humans ,sometimes gremlins make their way into the production line and no one can see them coming only the end results. Corrective action will get rid of the gremlins. It only takes a little thing to cause big problems.

Teddy agrees, you gave us your honest opinion & we appreciate that

None of us are responsible for what we don't know. This too will pass.

Lamont:

Thanks for the post. I feel kinda bad because I responded to one of the early posts about handling complaints and maybe went overboard about rider versus machine. But what's done is done. I only hope that BRP quickly follows up on legitimate problems and gets things fixed. I read today about all the cars that are being recalled because of air bag problems so BRP isn't alone in the world with this type of stuff.

As others have said.... thanks for being here.

The wealth of information on this forum is phenominal. I read a LOT behind the scenes before I actually joined. I had wanted to switch from 2 to 3 wheels for a while. With the help of this forum and many articles/posts from Lamonster (and so many others), I made the jump and I'm thankful I did.

This forum had done a lot for the Spyder and the Spyder community!!! I look forward to the new posts each and every day (errrr hour.... minute....F5!)
