• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Lamonster 2013 handling disclaimer

Lamonster

SpyderLovers Founder
I know I was pretty excited to tell you all about the handling on the 2013 Spyders that I rode. I know there is a lot of responsibility anytime I post something like that and my reputation is also on the line. I just want to say that ALL the 2013 Spyders that I rode handled great and the ST I have here now handles great. That's all I had to go by.

I also know that not all but some of the 2013 are having handling issues and they have been reported here on SL and it's not just new riders getting use to the Spyder. BRP are aware of these reports and are working on a solution. I'm confident that this problem will be worked out just like the DPS on the early GS/RS Spyders and the throttle body on the RT's.

I really wish that this would be the year there were no issues on the production units but it seems that no matter how many test miles they put on the Spyder there still seems to be issues that show up after the customer gets it in their hands. I guess this is an issue that almost all manufactures have.

The reason for this post is I can only go by what I rode and had no clue that there was going to be any issue with the production 2013, if I did I wouldn't have given it such rave reviews. I've worked hard though the years to give an honest opinion of products I've tested and I would never give a favorable review on something that I felt had issues. I would still recommend the 2013 with the disclaimer that some 2013 Spyders are having handling issues and to take a test drive at all speeds to make sure the one you buy doesn't leave the dealership without you feeling confident in the ride and handling. I hope this problem will go away soon and there will be less reports of handling issues just like the DPS and the throttle bodies.

None of us are responsible for what we don't know. You gave us an honest assessment of the machines you were able to ride. I'm sure you and BRP expected every Spyder coming off the production line to be identical to the ones you have experienced.

The fact that something has gone wrong with a relatively few Spyders because an unknown flaw in assembly isn't something that you have any control over. I'm not sure why anyone would hold you responsible.

The alignment issue is easily fixed and something that I'm sure BRP is all about putting behind them. It isn't like a defective part or bad engineering.

This too will pass.

Lamont,

You gave us your honest opinion/assessment based on your experience...no one in their right mind could assign responsibility to you for something totally beyond your control or knowledge at the time of your test runs.

I for one am thankful to you and others with a wealth of experience/knowledge for sharing with the rest of us. Please don't stop!!!

I understand Lamonster's post. You would think we were all smart enough to separate the matter as BajaRon states, but that's not the case...

You more than anyone (Sorry Scotty, Bob Denham and others) have done more for us Spyder Owners

If you had not started and now run this website many of those who have had the odd problem would have been in
the dark of what the problem was and how to try and get the problem sorted and most of all seen that all issues
once aired can be sorted out and once they are, they have a great machine on which to enjoy their travels
and have a forum they can learn from and take part in

BRP Safety recall system is also working and I know I became aware of the safety issues 1st via this website

Please take it from me I like the honest approach you and others make and as always the comments are made with the best intentions

Lamonster you have my full support - Thanks

Any time a new model comes off the production line there are bound to be some issues with it. You have people involved in the build and design, and I have yet to meet a perfect human. If BRP is aware of the problem and taking the necessary steps to correct it, I really cannot ask for more. I think we all are a little spoiled by the quality products that Bombardier puts out on a regular basis. That makes us a little more sensitive when something does not go wrong. I have ridden Ski-Doo snowmobiles for years, and believe they are the best sled out there hands down. I have however run into some design flaws in previous sleds (see ARC suspension in the first purple screamers). I have also seen quality you couldn't even dream up, such as The 2005 Mach Z with the 1000 SDI. My father pulls up next to me one night and sais: "There is something wrong with this sled, it won't do a hundred (as in MPH)". When we got the sled to the shop we had found out that one of the 2 fuel pumps had quit working and 2 of the 3 rollers in the clutch were MIA.
Long story made longer, quality issues will come and go, but this company stands behind a quality product. I will never fault anyone for giving me an honest opinion on something. Especially if that someone has much more experience than I do.

They should give it to you (and other experienced ryders) the protuction units for the real test (=miles).

Lamont...keep doing what you do. Without your vast knowledge and experience we'd all in some way be totally in the dark with these machines we have come to love. In my book, you get a HUGE !!

Bugs..!!

I'm sure everyone has come across the recalls on all motorized vehicles. These in the most part come after production and the vehicle is put in the dubious hands of the public. They and they alone can push these vehicles to their limits and beyond. No one person can know how each vehicle will respond. Production line use many parts manufactured by more that one suppliers(cost) and it may be that one lot is failing. That is why not all the vehicle are bad.
Not to worry Lamont I ,and many here, know you are responding to your experience and not everyone elses. Keep us informed always for you get the first shot and can set the bar for the rest...Thanks

Lamont--you've given us your honest opinions and I thank you for it--that some units have problems is not your fault--please do not stop giving us you appraisals.

I'm hurt

Lamont, I'm hurt and dissapointed. You can make it up to me though with something simple like a free pair of spyder "web" pegs for my NBV's or something small like that. I think I would feel better :(. :roflblack:

Stuff happens

The mark of the man, or the company, is how they respond to it. In this case it appears everyone is stepping up to the plate. Can't ask for more than that. nojoke

Lamont...you are the best thing BRP has for PR and test riding....to me the problem with alignment is a production...assembly problem....the ST that you have may have been a pre-production....a different animal.....but BRP will fix the problem...when they figure it out...completely..

But I agree with Docdoru...BRP needs to give a few real riders (someone who can do 25K+ miles a year) a ST...for testing and promotional....
BRP...I'm ready:dg1::dg2::dg1:I could start today.......:):):)
