Laminar windshield extension

Has anybody with a GS/RS and the 23" or 25" touring windshield use this product to extend the windshield? I get a lot of wind noise while riding to the point I'm worried about my hearing. I wear ear plugs but they don't seem to work very well on the pitch of the wind noise to help much.

Could be wrong but it looks like they are using it on the BRP sport touring windshield which is 14" and of no use for touring,hopefully it will fit you larger windshield correctly.

Same deal here Jeff. Was looking at something to give me that extra 4-5" while on the highway to keep the noise down. I saw dave01 had a similar product.

I would suggest better earplugs. Some people, like myself, are difficult to fit properly, and the earlpugs don't work as well as they should. I suggest the custom poured plugs. Big Ear are the ones we use, but there are usually vendors at most motorcycel shows, or you can buy custom kits online. As another alternative, I'd suggest mounting your windshield on a Madstad bracket. A little adjustment can do wonders!

One caution on the Madstad-- after putting on my risers, I've now discovered that the 22" windshield that worked great with my stock seating position now doesn't seem to cut it, I'm getting enough buffeting and booming that no earplugs can counter. I'll mess around with my bracket positioning to see if I can get more help, but I fear that I'll never get it to sit as good as I had it.

This here would be a nice alternative to springing for a new 24" windshield if the fit worked, but I like the look of a clean windshield enough to make me lean towards getting the 24" at some point versus doing a clip-on.

Windshield extension

i've tried 3 types of low cost ear plugs but they do little for the amount of wind noise. If I place my hand on edge on the top of my windshield the wind noise stops and all I hear is the purring of the engine. It seems that only two or more inches would make a world of differance.

I think the top edge of the sport windshield is the same size as the touring windshield but I understand the concern. I may test something attached to the top edge to see if it helps before spending the money.

great minds think alike. did the same thing with my hand and all i heard was engine. I love the look of the ultra touring and would hate to try and modifiy it. I think the clamp on would work for the long hauls and take it off when I'm just ridin throgh town. I'd do the Madstad if i knew for sure it would work. I'd love to be able to test ride someones spyder who had that set up. Hint Hint.

Don't get my earlier posting wrong-- I LOVE my Madstad. It's just with the bracket system there is literally an infinite variety of ways of positioning the windshield, and getting it "dialed in" takes time and patience. What's more, what's dialed in for one person is totally completely wrong for another person, and any changes to seat and grip position forces you to change the adjustment all over again.

I'm 5'10" at 30 inch inseam, and with the stock RS position the 22" Madstad worked perfectly set at the maximum height and stock angle. Now that I have my risers installed, however, that setting no longer works. There may be a chance that a lower setting could work (counterintuitively-- it'll no longer block wind from hitting my helmet, but it'll create a cleaner "flow" over my helmet), but that'll be another case of trial and error, and if it *doesn't* work, then I'm back to considering the taller 24" shield only a few months after I bought this one.

Frustrating? Yeah. Expensive? You bet. Live and learn, live and learn...

But again: Madstad makes one nice product, no reservations about buying it, or buying it again if I have to. :thumbup:

I can't speak for the RS/GS, but I had one on me ST1100 and was very pleased with the product. Reminds me, I should look to see if they have one for the RT
