I would think that if you didn't even make a big deal about it, most tech's wouldn't even notice and would just put the new tire on without thinking twice about it.

Just seems if you call them and specifically ask about installing a non standard tire, you'll probably get some flack.

So should I just give the dealers a call and make an appointment to have a new tire put on my 2014RTS-SE6?

What is your suggestion?

Why not make a "Discreet Inquiry"? :dontknow:
Don't give them your name or bike information; just ask if they will install a non-oem tire on a Spyder.

I got a little more out of my original Kenda (7,200 miles in 8 months) before it was bald in the middle. I really didn't want to put another Kenda on there and have to change it again toward the end of this year.

It took me calling 4 dealers before finding one that would put a non oem tire on. The first 3 all said their dealer agreement with BRP wouldn't allow them to install a non oem tire. The 4th one said "no problem" and changed the tire ($37.50 for the labor) yesterday.

I also went with the General Altimax RT43 215/60R15. Rode it home in light rain that turned into heavy rain and then a downpour. It did fine in the rain. I think you will be happy with that choice of tire.

Yes... and no. :shocked:
You will have to stay within parameters that'll keep the computer happy.
The stock rear size is 225/50-15
A 205/55-15 will be almost exactly the same overall diameter..
Lots of folks have gone up to a 215/60-15 size in order to correct speedometer error, and we haven't heard about "Nanny" whining about it. :thumbup:

I had the tire changed at about 5600 miles.
I'm currently at just about 6300 miles now.

I have 5,258 miles on the original rear tire on my 2014RTS-SE6 and I am on the 2nd ware bar and I don't want to put on an other Kenda tire because I am in the same boat as you are. I don't want to keep putting rear tires on it every year. ( Riding season)

I will be calling the 3 dealerships in Vermont to find out what they say.

That is good to know that you also went with the General Altimax RT.... 43.....215/60-15 and you had good luck with it riding in the rain. Dee

Deanna, that is how the Kenda typically wears - right down the middle. And you think it is bad to have to change tires every riding season, think how I feel I just installed my 5th rear tire on my 2014. :gaah: For me if I used the Kendas it would be changing them every trip. Crazy.

I don't to the change rear tire at the end of every riding season. I want a good tire that will get me thru 2 or 3 riding seasons. Thanks for the info. Deanna

My original rear tire looks just like Deanna's, also at 7200 miles. I've already ordered a Yokohama s.Drive to install. (205/15 size - same diameter as the OEM tire but slightly narrower.) Good reports on that tire here in the forum. But if I don't like that one, my NEXT tire will probably be the General Altimax in 215/60 size. I've heard too many people say they don't like the way the Kumho handles, especially on wet roads.

Dont tell them what you really want to put it on. I ordered new tires for the front of my Spyder on Saturday from onlinetires. I had to enter what it was going on. I just entered that it was for an 08 chevy cobalt. Order complete they should ship on Monday.

PS: Dont order over the phone, I think you are better off doing it online. imo
