• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

This is the reply that I got when I asked for a quote from the Kontour Seat Kontour Seats

Here is what he said:

Hi Paul:

$875.00 for the Spyder seat as requested. Sorry, we don't ever offer discounts. Mid - August is our first available production date.

Many thanks for stopping by and please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Best,

Ron

:yikes:

Thats a Kontour seat for the driver only and without the special foam for the Pillion.......frankly that's pretty darn expensive and a lot more than I expected for the seat. I'm thinking that a set of beads may be my next try for a long ride.

Thats ridiculous.. they also make some pretty serious claims and some that well are false IE "will wear longer - much longer - than commodity grade vinyl or even high quality leather" I cant speak for so much for vinyl but leather if properly taken care of will last you your lifetime..i know guys that have horse saddles that their grandpappy had that they use daily. I cant beleive a high quality leather motorcycle seat couldnt last your lifetime if taken care of. I can say that the seat on my road king was six years old when I sold it and it looked brand new minus a ferw dents from my butt cheeks.. all that ebing said I would never pay that for a seat but still it looks like a quality product..

Go with the BRP comfort seat...for less than half of that price, it's quite an upgrade!

That's more than a Corbin or a Russell. However, if it's as good as they say it is, it would be money well spent. There are a few things that can make a trip miserable and not having a good seat is one of them. I had a BeadRider and it did make a long ride tolerable but my Russell saddle has made it so the seat is never a reason for me to want to get off the Spyder. With the BeadRider on the stock seat, I was still ready to get off the Spyder after 4 or 5 hours to give my butt a rest.

Here is the link to the actual BeadRider if you want to check them out.

I had one of these before I got my Russell. It was a great improvement over the stock seat, not as good as the Russell, but it didn't cost like the Russell either. You might look at them for an option, or I could sell you mine if you are interested. PM me if so.

Personally, I like the Corbin, and have a BeadRider ($35), that I add or remove as needed/wanted. The Corbin is wider and firmer, the BeadRider is cooler & dryer (think rain here....)

I've seen a fair number of used Corbins for the Spyder, so you could probably get one for 1/2 price, if you are willing to wait for next winter...

Seats art totally personal, what one loves, another will hate. I had a Russell on my K1200LT - and, frankly, it wasn't worth the money. I am 63, 6'4", and 285#, so a wider, stiffer seat works best for me, while my SO, who is 59, 5"11" and 175# prefers the narrower "stock" style seat - I chalk that up to plumbing....

The ONLY way to really be sure is to find a bike with a seat of interest, and sit on it... that means a Spyder with that seat, not your buddy's Goldwing...

I love my Corbin--- not sure I would buy one used. When I ordered mine they got all my specs-- then it takes a good 1,000+ miles to break it in. If someone else is a different shape and weight - the break-in will be different.

A Spyder Corbin - my used seat had 300 miles on it - based on the responses here, and what I've seen on the road, only 1 in 20 Spyders have more than 1K or so miles on them....

In my experience, Ron is a good guy, with a quality product. Yes with limitations, but he is straight about it.

He is one of the first to make seats that match the original design for whatever bike.

I guess I was expecting it to cost in the 700's not almost 900.....thus the shock.

Same here. However, I still would have liked to have considered it when I got my Russell. To me, the waterproof qualities and the airiness of the special mesh covering would be worth something extra. My Russell is not waterproof and I spend most of the time riding around with the waterproof cover on just in case it rains. I did order my Russell with the velour seating surface as it's supposed to allow more airflow between the seat and my butt, but riding with the cover on probably negates that advantage.

PS--Ron make a great seat. I have one on my BMWLT and have 5+ years and 50+K miles of comfort on the Kontour seat.

Hi Tom
welcome Nice to see you on the board. I met your general manager as well as your daughter at RPW here in Indy. They told me you were getting an RT. Let me know if you are in Indy and we will get together for a coffee or a ride.
