• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Keys locked in trunk

Couple of things. Take the plastic off as if you were going to change oil. Run your hand and arm up under the front and try to reach the cable and pull it - just enough to cause the release. Number 2 - try to pull the cable under the key way. It is the cable on the left side toward the top outermost position. This works real well if you have the "healy bar risers". Maybe a coat hanger to reach the cable will help. I'm sure others may chime in. Lamont may be able to explain better than I have. Stan

the cable can be reached via the left fog light hole if you do not have the
fog lights installed you can reach in there and get it.

Get yourself an Ilco X270 key blank, and have a locksmith cut it to match your ignition key. It won't run the bike, but it will unlock stuff...
Attach it to something solid behind a body panel (The one you remove for oil changes! :thumbup:)

I would try the other options first though. I have a secret lever to open it so I can keep all my stuff in the spyder when I go to play.

What Bob said--or similar. I locked keys in my VW Bus way back in the 60's. Cost me more than a days pay to get the locksmith to open it up and retrieve the keys. Since then, I always have a separate set with me--apart from the ones that I use to power up the bike. Never needed to use the spare set again. :thumbup:
 
If you do build yourself a "dummy key"; here's an experiment...
Put it in the ignition, and turn it to the "Start" position...
The bike will spool up and get ready for the fuse to be lit...
Now; touch the head of your good key to the Dummy...
And hit the starter... ;)
 
I accidentally locked my keys in the forward trunk on my 2008 gs...any ideas???

Failing the availability of the back up key and not being able to get to the release cable here is a solution my wife used on her 2010 RT when she locked the keys in the Frunk.

I had borrowed a tire iron and was ready to break the Frunk cover figuring I would duct tape it together for the rest of the trip until we got home.

She stalled me, took a hammer and gently inserted the claw end on either side of the lock mechanism. She then pried the cover up and gave a quick jerk. There is a small piece of plastic that the lock slides into and one side of that plastic broke away releasing the cover. She then went into the tool kit, took out the tube of super glue therein and proceeded to put the plastic back in place. It held after a couple of minutes and she rode the Spyder for five more months that way before trading it in on her 2012 RT.

Whoever is riding that '10 model these days probably has no idea the Frunk cover is secured with super glue.

True, that works...

Bent my key up at SpyderFest. Got an Ilco X270 blank, went to the locksmith and he cut it for me. Yeah, you could start the engine by touching the coded key to it.

The problem was my key head was a box style, you could not push the key down to get open the frunk or the seat to get to the gas cap. Had to have the 'hips' cut off the lower end of the square key head to be able to push the key down.

Had to ration my gas for a while... :opps:
 
I did this once. Thankfully there was a young engineer with the group. He ha a small circumference screwdriver. He gently inserted it in the top middle of the frunk lid lip, jiggled it and the frunk opened....minutes before a huge rainstorm. My group will never let me forget this. LOL
 
NO NO NO!!!!

You get a long flat screw driver... or something that will have a blunt end on it...

You lift up the corner of the frunk (Passenger side of frunk if it were a car). You then pry up the plastic valance underneath that covers the area where the coolant bottle is. You'll be able to see the release mechanism if you shine a light in there and you can push it with the screw driver - hence why it needs to be a long one.

This is probably the safest way to get into the frunk without damaging anything. Done it several times... and it is a good reminder that the frunk isn't all that secure.

As Yazz mentioned; grind those corners off so as to match the contour of your OEM keys and you're good to go! Ten minutes with a decent file will do it! :2thumbs:
