I did not get a 2nd key when I bought my :spyder2: The first owner said he turn in every thing to the dealer. I went to the dealer and they had an extra RT key in stock but if I wanted it I would have to pay for it $50 plus take it to a lock smith and have them cut the key then bring it back to the dealer and let them program it. That will be another $35. I don't think I can afford this Spyder. Every time you turn around it's cost are outrageous amount for what ever it is you need. They know you can't go anywhere to get a key so they got you. Does anyone feel like me or am I the only one? I'm not and engineer or anything close but that little key did not cost that much to make. Especially after you paid $30,000 for the Spyder to start with. I was at the Harley dealer the other day. They had a trike on the floor for $31,000 drive out. Makes me want to sell my RT LTD and start over.:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I think that $85-100 is about normal for a key with a computer chip. I think I paid $65 for a chipped key for my '05 T-Bird but that was 6 or 7 years ago. The key for my '13 Toyota is $135 so compared to that the Spyder is a bargain.

Rented a Caddy the last time I was in Vegas. They said it would cost me $325 if I lost the key.

If you purchased your :spyder2: from a dealer, you shoud have received two keys, a tool kit, and a manual. Any short, and the dealer should make good on these items. What a crock of :cus: you get from some dealers.

Just replaced the key in my Volvo... $325. I'm not saying it cost them that much to make them, but its the general price the market has set.

I would guess that is about right for a new Spyder key.
But if you purchased it from the Dealer, I would think they could go at least half on a new key. If you bought it from a private person, I go with dealer.
I would get two new blanks and have them cut and programed. One stays at home all the time.
If you lose the one key and have no other one, I think it is about $1,000.00 to replace unit.

I guess when I bought my Spyder it was on consignment at the dealer so basically they really had no obligation to furnish a 2nd key.:banghead: Just can't get used to how things keep going out of site and our Social Security stays the same. I guess it is what it is. No one forced me to buy the :spyder2: maybe when I get hooked up with a local group and start riding with other with them it will be worth it all. Thanks for you input.

Hidden 2nd key

When I traded my '08 Spyder in, I informed the dealer where the 2nd key was; hidden on the bike in an area that no tools are required for access. Does no good to be out of town, need a key, and it is at home.

Just a thought.

I do the same thing but I also had a couple of keys made which will unlock the storage compartments but won't start the Spyder. These keys only cost a few dollars to make and can come in handy. When we're on a trip, my wife and I each carry one. Cotton

Agree in part. 2nd key hidden on Spyder, 3 rd at home for real emergency, overnight mail, if required.
