key ring hole in spyder key

I saw a picture of a spyder key that had a hole in it with a red buckle up streamer on it in your pictures titled Suff. I was told by my dealer that you couldn't put a hole in the key because the key has a chip in it. Was that your key or someone elses? The more important question is: Does the key still work?

I have had a hole in my key since Jan 2008 with no problems.

I put it in the corner of the key by the edge to be able to put it on my key chain.

I used the point of a hot sodering iron and put a hole right through just above where the bottom of the head meets the metal part of the key. No problems. I did it with both keys after I saw someone else do it to theirs... a guy I met up with at my house on his Spyder. I don't have a picture with me.

Personally, I adapted to the little lanyard that comes with the key.

Personally I would hate to have and see a nasty bunch of keys flapping around the area of the keyhole -- doing damage to that area.

They key is very safe in the lanyard. It will not fall out.

I agree with Bill !!!

I will second that. Many times I have seen bikes badly pitted and scratched around the key switch area, due too multiple keys on a ring flapping in the wind. Even a leather key holder attached to the key can do some damage over time. Doesn't matter if it is chromed metal or plastic it will take its tole.

Key with hole

I did this the other day, mostly to make it easier to hang on the hook at the house. I used a 1/16 bit, and the smallest keyring I could find. Works like a charm, no problems at all.

This is where I put the hole on mine... I am tired of forgetting my key in the ignition. I'd rather have some scratches than a stolen Spyder.

I agree this is how I have placed my key for the past 20 months. My two keys came with a sheath and at the end of the sheath there was a small ring. When originally testing the bike some 2 years ago BRP gave me a lanyard to wear around my neck and thats where I keep my key. It fits well and secure in the sheath and dose not interfear with anything, I always carry the spare but it also is kept in the sheath in a zipped pocket by itself, (I prefer to keep it on me rather that realise I have locked it it the trunk as thats a hassle).

No holes to drill and the key is secure and away from all the other keys I tend to carry these days.......Maybe when you test the new RT BRP may be doing the same, I won't know yet as my appointment is not until the 24th of this month and I am realy looking forward to seeing the RT in person and taking for a ride as it looks much more comfortable for my spouse that my RS ( which I like a bunch as well).:thumbup:
