• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

key replacement

SPYDERGUY1

Had an issue on Sunday , where the key got bent. tried to straighten it out , of course it BROKE IN HALF. New key 60 bucks, locksmith to cut key 17 bucks, dealer to program new key 63 bucks. OH MAN:banghead: Was a long walk home, get the spare key, hook up the trailer and go rescue the bike, and get it home again, not willing to do the walk again. I guess CARMA is a B****, not sure why tho.

Clone a couple of spares. Hide one on your Spyder that you can get to if you lose yours again. Here is a link to a seller with the right key blank to buy. http://www.lockpicks.com/aprilia-scooters-transponder-key-rw-zd23rt5-jma.html I am not recommending this seller, it's just an example. Search for yourself you may find an even cheaper one.

Once you have the clonable blank(s). Take it and one of your working keys to a locksmith with a cloning machine. Old technology, if they have any machine at all it will likely work. They will cut and clone it for you. All done, you got some spares.

PS: For those of you new folks reading this. The blank listed only works for 2008 to 2013 models. Not for 2014 and newer.

:gaah: Sorry to hear glad you are up & going. As far as the spare goes, I personally keep my stock Keys as a spares & now only use the keyport I had made when I first got the bike :firstplace:
https://mykeyport.com. Will still need the locksmith but may work better for you in long run:thumbup:

Bummer...

Kwick Keys can clone spyder keys 08-13 for 35 bucks. Cheaper if you get the blanks online...I always carry two keys ...

Cheap Guy Solution

Keep your second chipped key stored in a locked compartment on your Spyder. Have an Ilco X270 key blank cut to match the chipped key and carry it on your person. If something happens to your primary chipped key, except breaking it off IN the ignition switch, use the Ilco key to open the locked compartment and get your second chipped key. For my Spyder I had to bevel the Ilco key as shown so it would allow the push down function on the ignition switch to open the frunk or release the seat lock. Replace your broken/lost/misplaced chipped key without missing a ride.

JAYBROS, that is an excellent idea. After eight years of riding it never had an issue, don't want another issue again. Hopefully my Spyder is in the recovery room and healing up after the programming surgery. Supposed to be ready for pick up tomorrow. Will definetly get the other key as EMERGENCY ONLY. Thank's again.

Thanks JayBros,

Just ordered a couple of blanks on e-bay @ $3.99 each

Not that I want everyone to know and really know it won't matter if most here do as I doubt they would steal my Spyder.

On the RT the speaker grills can be easily popped off by hand (no tools needed). In there I keep a chipped key.
Great hiding spot for those that have no idea about it.

I have a non-chip key at the inner end of the right mirror. With it I can lift the seat and get the tool kit, open the trunk, remove three screws to remove the passenger backrest, and retrieve the chip key! Generally speaking, if a crook can't get the vehicle running in short order he won't steal it!
