• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Key Rattle

Ok you guys are going to think I am crazy, but here goes. My key rattles, vibrates, buzzes, whatever you want to call it. It's driving me nuts.:gaah:.
It will go away if you push, pull, or turn the key. I thought about adding some o-ring to it to put some pull back pressure on it.

I figured I would post here first to see if anyone else has this issue and a fix for it.

This is a new one to Teddy & I :dontknow::hun:
Sorry, no help here. Key seems solid & in place when in the ignition. Maybe someone else can offer some advise for ya :chat:

Just ignorant old me here... There's just not much to the key that would make it buzz on its own... Is the switch itself loose???

:dontknow::opps: New one for me as well sorry. I wonder as well if it is the housing or even the tumbler causing the issue. Our keys for the RT and RS are tight. I would go as far as saying the RS is to tight and requires a little finesse and patience...

Does the key do all this while you are riding, idling, or just when the key is in the ignition and the Spyder is not running. If it does it while you're either riding or idling, you have very sensitive ears or for some odd reason the space in the ignition is enlarged.
You said it goes away when you push, pull, or turn the key which suggests the Spyder is not running when this happens. If it were running you could not turn the key but one way and that would turn the engine off. The pull or push is minimal to non-existent (at least on the 2008 SE5 we had or the 2010 RT we now have). I am as confused as anyone else who posted on your thread. It may help if you post more information about the symptoms.

Just an FYI, And I too cannot comment on any others at this time... Our 2011 RS allows us to open the Fronk while the engine is running...

While the engine is running, we push the key in from its current position, turn it to the left and the fronk unlocks...

Thanks for the heads up. My RT is not that up-scale. lol

It only does it between 2500-5500 rpm. When I say turn the key I mean just touch it left or right, up or down. The slightest pressure makes it go away. I tried a rubber band to the front of the tumbler and that works but looks bad. I think the stack of o-rings may work.
I will advise after today's ride.

Sneaking out of work a couple of hours early.

 I had wondered if that was the case, ever since I discovered the other day that I could open the seat on the new RTS while the engine was running. I did not get a chance to test the theory, however.

My key also emits a buzzing sound at about 5000 rpm when moving at speed. It was not until this post that I even thought to look there. Really it was driving me nuts. Its just barely audible above the two bros. The whole assembly is tight and works fine. The rattle stops when I apply a slight downward pressure on key.

???????

Buzzing is about the best way to describe it. I tried o-rings and they did not work. If I come up with something I will post up.

Update: I tried a drop of 3-1-oil in the key slot it helped but it was still there. I ended up using a mini 6" bungee cord from the key to the bottom of the black housing in front of the key area, It has two indents that hold the hooks perfectly. It may not look the greatest but I have my sanity back. If you need a pic let me know.
