• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Key programming

Yes you can!
There are places that'll sell you the proper key blank with the correct chip in it.
Take that, and one of your oem keys to somebody who can clone them, and you're in business! :2thumbs:

Perfect. I'm used to carrying a spare BMW plastic key then does the same thing in my wallet. Then you can leave a "real" spare key hidden somewhere on the bike and carry a spare that the average thief couldn't use to start the bike :dontknow:

There you go...!!

clone the exsisting key (kwick keys) and have a valet key. I always carry two keys in different locations...

Would a non-chipped key open the frunk and bags on a 2014 RT
I have both extra non-chipped keys and chipped keys. Here is what I learned.
Find a key blank that fits into the key slot in the trunk. Have a couple of keys made out of that blank. These keys will open the trunk, open the frunk, unlock the forks, and turn the ignition on. YOU CANNOT start the engine with these keys.

Get a Can Am key blank and get it cut. Then take it to your dealer and get it programmed. The Spyder can accept four keys. The programming is NOT on the key but in the Spyder. The computer in the Spyder will accept four keys. It has nothing to do with the programming on the key. You have to take in ALL the keys to get it programmed. This is because when the tech hooks it up to put in the extra key, it erases the other keys from memory--he has to program all of them at the same time.

Make sure you ask the price of the programming. The dealer where I purchased my Spyder (If you go there you are kinda nuts), quoted me $260 PER KEY. Another dealer, located in Riverside, just 10 miles further from my house, did the programming on all four keys for $30.

Now, I have a non-programmed key in my jeans, a programmed one hidden on the Spyder--in a locked compartment, a progammed one in my wife's purse, and an extra one just for kicks.

I have not locked my key in the frunk since I got the extra keys. So, I guess it was good that I did it.

Dan,
There's another way to do this...
Take one of your chipped keys, and get it cloned.
The bike won't even be able to tell that it's not an original key. :D
There's no limit to the number of cloned copies that you can have either... one is the same as any other!
It doesn't even need to be done by a dealer; anyone with the proper hardware can do it!

How and where do you get it cloned? My locksmith--or rather the one guy in town I went to--said that the Can Am required a special machine to clone a key, and he didn't know anyone who had one.

The 2014s are a completely different set of problems...
They use a rolling code sort of a chip; they do require the aid of a dealer.
But the 2013s and prior...
Call locksmiths, and ask if they can clone a TP-05 Cloneable chip...

I purchased the apilla key but I have not found a locksmith in the Denver area that can clone it, they say they can't read the original chipped key. I still had it cut and use it for a frunk key. Spyder dealer wont deal with it, they want you to buy a key from them for 35.00 and program it for 45.00. crazy crazy days

I was able to get some cloned at an ACE hardware store. But another ACE said that their computer wouldn't read it. So you may have to look around a bit.

I have a Can-Am master key and tried to use one of the blank Aprila keys in the programming sequence and it would not work. However, if you have it cloned to one of your Can-Am keys and later add another Can-Am key, the Aprila will still work if the Can-Am key it was cloned to is still programmed to your Spyder.

I don't have the part number handy, but if you search the forum there were a couple of threads within the last couple of months where the part number was listed. I searched google for that number and found a couple of dealers that sold them. Remember that will not work with the 2014 not with the aprila keys, you have to have the can-am keys to do that process.
