• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

KewlMetal Mirror Extensions - Issues

I installed the KewlMetal Mirror Extensions on my wife's 2008 SM5 the other day. They did successfully address the problems we were looking to have resolved after installing the NMN 4" handlebar risers. We were looking at our hands & not much else. Now we can see much more of what we need behind us.

Issues I have with the KewlMetal Mirror Extensions:

The finish on the product is a smooth/black finish, which does not match that of the OEM base mount and arm.

As you can also see, the lines of the extension do not flow with the lines of the mirror mount and arm. It's a solid block, which is placed at a totally different angle on the top and bottom and front & rear sides than the original base and arm. You can also see the excess bolt length sticking out the bottom...

The thickness of that block is also different than those of the base & arm. It seems to make no attempt to flow with the lines.

These are simply my thoughts. Did I install them wrong, or do I have it pegged about right?

Since they seem to be the only game in town & since they do function well, I'll live with the lack of form. I just wish the price delivered a more attractive product.

The extensions can also be incompatable with some aftermarket windshields. If you have one or are contemplating getting one, keep that in mind.

I too am not overly impressed with the fit and finish of these mirror extensions but they were the only thing available when I purchased them.

The Kewlmetal mirror extensions were the first ones out, within the first few months of the first Spyders hitting the streets. My guess is that they made something fairly quickly and easily that got the job done, got it out to the public as quickly as possible and have never revisited the design since that time. dltang has a set of them and we both agree that they aren't the most aesthetically pleasing mod to her Spyder.

I had never seen them up close and I have to agree with comments made here. If I ever decide to get mirror extensions I'll order the ESI ones for sure.

Man, sure wish we'd have waited...

Is returning them not and option?. :)

I have never seen a set of the Kewl Metal 'stenders on or off a Spyder, so I don't have any opinion one way or another. But looking at the pics you posted, Mark, I can see that they don't really blend in with the "flow" of the mirror stem.

I ordered a set of MagicMans extensions. We have the 4" risers and all you see in the mirrors is hands ATM. NMN's bring the mirrors out and up which I m hoping will clear up our rear view dilemma.
