• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. I had a Kenwood sound system in my Mazda GLC in a car that I use to have........... It sounded excellent Deanna

Hi Dee!
It's probably just a matter of finding the proper size and impedance, and it'd be an easy swap...
I know that Mike had all of the sizes; oem and aftermarket, listed in his threads about changing speakers.

I have used them in my son's cars. They are clearer than stock but no measurably increase in volume.

Next year I might change the speakers. Deanna

I do not mean to hijack this thread but I have been wanting to ask a question and this seems a logical place to do so. If one is riding with a full-face helmet and earplugs can you hear the speakers on a motorcycle/Spyder? I have always used either earbuds or helmet speakers.

Yes Joseph you can hear the stereo with the ear plug in. Been listening to it for three whole days now. See you in Santa Cruz.

Thanks, Ray, for the info. I had always wondered about that. Congratulations on the RT!!!
See you in Santa Cruz.

At speed

I recently got my phone to talk to my Sena comm system. Works perfect with ear plugs in ( cheap helmet). easy to go to my other bikes ( Vmax and Valkyire with shorty windscreens).
Also now with RAM mounts. But the coat pocket also works fine.

Curious why you would go Kenwood. Not saying the speakers are bad. We already know the JBL setup to work without adding an amp and does pretty good in that setup.
Also, if the JBL is not what you want, there are other proven setups. The JBL does have very good performance specs when compared to other speakers, also the listed materials used should hold up better than most speakers based on what the data sheets say they are fabricated from.

Ever since the JBL swap was brought up by Mike, there have been questions about what might happen, if you crank up the system into a set of 2 ohm speakers... :dontknow:
Honestly; I don't know enough about the arguments to make a decision on them. Based upon that lack of info, I'd either stay stock, change to J&M speakers, or look specifically at other 4 ohm setups.

 3 Ohms...

There's even more "ohmage" to worry about? :banghead: :joke:

Seriously; the only thing that I know for sure about electricity, is to keep my tongue out of the electrical sockets in the house... nojoke
So my question becomes: Do you think that the system still retains enough excess capacity built into it; to make using speakers that are "Close, but not quite" what the engineers had in mind okay? :dontknow:

I also would believe that replacing the oem plastic perforated grilles with modified grilles will improve the sound quality further.

I am sure if someone had a very solid electronics background, they could hybrid a very nice sound system using a better quality receiver and amp while retaining the fighter pilot left side grip controls.

PMK, I was just wondering if anyone had tried the Kenwood Speakers in their spyder. I know that JBL has great speakers, and sound. I might do something different next year. I can not this year, to much going on right now. Deanna

Hopefully someone will have installed the Kenwoods and have the proven system for you to copy.

All the best with it.

PK, Maybe next year, I do hope that someone will install the Kenwood's so I can copy. Time will tell. Deanna
