• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

JUST MY LUCK!

Brian, I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. One suggestion for a signal would be thumbs down if you need help and thumbs up if you are okay. I generally stop when I see a stranded biker who is alone. I carry a pretty good assortment of tools and a cell phone. I'll go pick it up for you if you don'twant to.

Thank you Ann for that offer. You are so sweet. But I still have to return my rental car. Did Joe get back yet?

One thing ALL Spyders have in common is a windshield. Behind that is another matter. I spotted this on Amazon which might fit the bill for a universal distress signal. Its made to go on golf carts with suction cups. It should fit into any frunk, rear trunk, trailer, deep purse, or maybe under the seat! Could even write HELP on it with a magic marker. I ordered one, hope it arrives before I go back to Durango. Hope I never have to use it.

I even saw the same golf cart set up with the flag having the wheelchair symbol on it. Hmm. I wonder if I can mount one on my SIL's wheelchair? Hey SethO, whats your handicap?

Thought I'd give an update on my RT up for repairs in Durango...still. BRP in Canada was closed for three days starting last weekend. So the torque converter that was ordered on Saturday morning could not be shipped airfreight till Tuesday. I was cautioned by Lyle, the owner at Fun Center in Durango, that it might get hung up in customs, and lo it was. It was delivered yesterday, and as luck would have it, it was the WRONG part. The part number was off by 1 digit. :gaah:Lyle told me the correct part was located in the US warehouse (the what?) and would arrive today. Its about a 3 hour repair.:banghead:

I was fully hoping to drive back to Durango 48 hrs ago but realized it may be delayed 24 hrs. Meanwhile I have a rental car I'm making daily payments of $80+ on. You ever heard of trickle-down economics where you watch your checking account drain and you can't stop it? Pretty much what our country is going through BTW only its not a trickle. Its Niagra Falls baby!

Lyle has been VERY GOOD keeping in touch with me on email. I think the owners were very blessed to have such a customer oriented facility as its "host" during the owners event. I know they touched A LOT of Spyders during that time. I've read horror stories, in the owners opinion, on how the dealers gave them the screw and just wish God would reach down and grab the bike and put it in Lyles parking lot. Course if He did that it would land fixed. So I know I am good hands inside or outside the parking lot.

I plan to leave California at 0200-0300 tomorrow morning for the 12 hr drive to Durango, so I can return the car, pick up the bike and trailer (I'm having faith that it is fixed), get a room, and return to Cali at 0200-0300 the following morning, which I think is Monday.

If its not ready I suppose I'll have to find a refrigerator box and sleep out in Lyles parking lot or in the RT-622.:roflblack:

In no way am I blaming BRP or Fun Center for the turn of events. We all buy vehicles realizing they won't last forever and it was just my turn. I don't know why the part broke. I don't think it was my fault. I was downshifting on Poop Out Hill while in Trailer Mode and I am not a slow driver...except on the Million Dollar Highway. But after reading about the Rotax engine and the SE5 here on SL, I'm going to adjust my shifting to a higher RPM, particularly with a trailer.

I just hope the BRP VP meant what he said downtown about being more customer and owner oriented. But if the new part is the wrong part again I am going to scream in French so he can hear me and demand that a part be robbed from a new bike and get me out of town!

Brian, would it have been cheaper for you to have dropped the rental car in Barstow and got another for the return?

Actually no. At least not in the short run. If I return the car to the airport it would be roughly $150. After four days they charge me per day. Good news though. I just got off the phone with the service center at Fun Center and they are working on the bike. They will call me when repairs and test drive are completed.

UPDATE

Just got off the phone with the dealer and the bike is ready, however, there is a slight creep while at idle and they are not sure why. BRP techs inCanada offered some ideas but without tearing down the machine they don't know why it's behaving this way. Another thought may be the new parts may need to break in more but it is safe to travel. If there are any problems when I get back in town I will take it to a local mechanic.

So I'm taking off tomorrow about 3 am, if not earlier, go to Durango, check in the car, check out the bike, and head for Gallup for the night. It will be a VERY long day tomorrow. Then I will take off very early again from Gallup. Needles high Monday will be 111* so with an early start I will be home around noon Monday. Maybe I'll get a good tailwind!

And I am the last Spyder in town. Lucky me huh?

Some biker shops carry small emergency kits for bikes. There is a Red Cross first aid kit that has a "HELP" pennant in it that can be put on the back of the bike or tied to the bars. It's just a matter of shopping around. As far as stopping, if I see another vehicle stopped to help someone I normally press on. You have to consider the traffic factor and the chance for an accident if too many vehicles are stopped. Hope your Spyder is fixed soon.

Is ready to ryde, bruiser, thank you. My little yellow flag, which can be attached by two suction ups, came in today fom Amazon. It is very storable and if any rider, or driver, sees it on the side of the road they will know that something is amiss. Whether they stop is another matter. Hazard lights are as good as the battery and does not indicate something is wrong, just to stay clear.

I will submit a picture as soon as I catch up with my bike for your thoughts.
