There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Hello all, we just got our long awaited some what customized Orbital Blue RTS SE5. Delivered to us last night. When we went for a few rides last eveing after getting it, we noticed it stalled a few times (not many but it did). And also noticed after riding it and stopping on our drive way the bike wanted to stall. Then after 10 minutes or so we got on it to ride a little bit around the neighborhood it was hard to start. It would keep turnign over and would not start...then I gave it soem throttle afew times and it would roughly start unil it smoothed out the idle...then we were fine. But random long starts then throttle needed and then when it did start it was fumbling and rouch but did smooth out. Didnt think we had to throttle it to start it if it is electronic fuel injection. Odd for a brand new bike. Thanks:dontknow: Yes had plenty of fuel..LOL

If it is having to crank long when starting cold, it is probably a fouled plug. Mine did the same, right off the showroom floor. That requires dealer attention. If it is having a problem starting when warm, it is a known issue. The work-around is to crack the throttle slightly and try starting again, if it balks when warm. Also, be sure you are always leaving the throttle off when starting normally. The old trick of cracking the throttle while starting does not work well on a Spyder, unless you are experiencing warm restart issues. The rough initial running sounds like spark plugs. The stalling could be that, or could be an additional clutch problem.

We too had plug issues when our RT was new.

If they are bad could cause many of the issues you are having give your dealer a call for sure.

Works fine now- wow

Thanks it works fine now. Dealer told me I had to pump the throttle a littl and then start it...They said they leave the throttle turned a little and it shoudl start. Well I pumpped the hrottle two good ones and it started with no issues. I thought these things were Fuel Injected...They are it seems but they do not have a slef priming actuator like Harlyes do now. For Harleys you turn your key, then you tunr the switch on then you hear it loading fuel, then you hit the start button. For these Spydres, well the RTS, you have to pump the throttle then start it. Wierd for a Fuel injected engine. But it works fine. Also firned there is no more stalling...maybe the inital issue was part of the breakin period..who knows...we know have 30 miles as of today. We are pretty excited. Thanks for your help...I will stiill monitor this.

nope dont have to pump the throttle. I have a 07 fatboy as well and the Spyder doesnt have the same priming sound.

but if I have even the slightest throttle on when starting it takes longer. if i keep my hand 100% off not even touching the throttle and hit the start button with just my finger it fires right up every time :D

I'm afraid your dealer was mistaken. With the fly-by-wire throttle, the throttle plates will not even move until the engine is started/cranked. If you hold the throttle cracked open while you crank, however, it will compensate for the fuel saturation in one cylinder, that happens on a hot restart. If the fuel saturation is severe, you may have to crank through at wide open throttle (WOT) to clear the cylinders prior to normal starting. This disables the injectors and ignition while cranking, enough to clear the cylinders. The engineers say this doesn't work on the RT, but it is in the service manual and the tech people agree that it works. If the problem persists, or occurs when the engine is cold, you may have ignition problems that will need to be addressed by the dealer.

None of this matters. Whatever works for you is good! All motorcycles have their little tricks and preferences...as do all riders. Just be glad it isn't an old Brit single...they really take some starting technique!

Have 8500 miles on RT and never a starting problem. "NEVER" touch the throttle. Start. Idle. Warm. Ride. Who's your dealer???:gaah:
