• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just got off the phone with Carlo

received a call from dealer... like others have reported; BRP are working on the issues but no timeline was given for the fix ... was asked to be patient.

Carlo

Not wanting to take anything away from Carlo, but the company I work for has several call centers. Each person's title is some type of executive or the other. They have fancy titles so the customers feel like they are talking to a VIP...the reality is they are customer support folks with a pecking order, supervisors and lots of productivity measurements to live up to.

I think we should be considerate of each others feels here.

I think we need to be considerate of each others feels here. There is no place for side tracking from what should be everyone's goal to enjoy their spyder.

I ordered the stock bearings (09) and it looked the same as my (08) bearings. I was comparing them to the aftermarket bearings I found on the web.

Here's the stock 08 in the hub and 09 in the packing BRP bearing.

Actually, that's a 2008 bearing in the packaging. The 2009 part number is 293350067. The part number for the wide bearing in the sprocket has not changed.

I think he means 2009 model, not a part made in 2009.
So you're saying they sent me a bearing made in 09 for my 08 Spyder? If I had a 09 Spyder they would have sent me a different bearing? Did they change the hub? Why wouldn't they send me the newer bearing?

I am happy that Carlo is giving you such good service. This has not been my experience. I sent him an email on July 26th, with a followup on August 10th and no reply yet.

I had a simple questions about the wheel bearing part numbers being different in 2009 than in 2008. I wanted to know what physical differences there may be relating to the new part number. I was not asking for the secret recipe.

If he is not going to answer my question, then he should say so. This simple task could have been handed off to an intern.

Sounds like you guys are in the same boat. Sometimes I wonder if they just do this kind of thing until all the old stock is gone or something.

If there are different part numbers for the 2008 and 2009 models, as there are on some other parts, the bearings are probably different in some way. Could be dimensions, specs, seals, or even a different supplier of the same size bearing. Every manufacturer does parts differently. Some have multiple numbers for the same parts, but most do not. Parts to fit a 2008 model could be manufactured anytime from the introduction in 2007 to the present. Honda was producing parts for some of the sixties bikes clear into the 1990s. With today's "just in time" manufacturing practices, manufacturers do not stock up ahead of time.

Now you are catching on as to why I wanted to know what was involved in the part number change.

The part number for the rear wheel bearings for a 2008 model year Spyder is 293350055.

The part number for the rear wheel bearings for a 2009 model year Spyder is 293350067.

The part number for the sprocket bearing is 293350065 for both model years.

As I recall (not sure), the part number for the wheel is the same for both model years.

They sent you the old part number because you have a 2008 model year Spyder. This has nothing to do with when it was packaged.

I don't know why they didn't just supersede the old part number. Apparently, there is a significant difference between the two versions and the bearing for the 2009 model year is not appropriate for the 2008 model year vehicle. This is hard to believe unless they are just running out old inventory.

I would like to know what the differences are between the two part numbers. I have not had any success in my quest thus far.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about vast differences between the parts. They could easily be quite similar. A minor change in radius, different seal material, etc. Size is probably the same, due to same hub part number. Most likely they changed the load rating of the bearing, but who knows? If they did, I don't know why they didn't supercede the earlier part number for the 2008 models, though.

It could be identical. In going through the fuel line parts, I noticed that there are at least four different part numbers for the same size Oetiker clamp. Sometimes different part numbers at each end of the same hose! There may be differences, but I sure can't spot them. I don't think the BRP parts system is quite as organized as it could be. It will be interesting to find what the differences in many of these parts is.

The bearings are pretty cheap, why not just order a bearing for a 09 and then you'll have your answer and a spare bearing?
